Where is the FICM Relay

I just got the Innovative Diesels FICM tuner for my 05 Excursion with the 6.0 PSD. The first thing you are supposed to do is remove the FICM Relay, but I have yet to figure out which relay it is.

In the pic below are two possible locations. They are both on the drivers side near the fire wall in the engine compartment The larger of the two is directly next to the fire wall and the other box (with only two relays) is a little closer to the power steering tank.

I have looked all over the internet and watched their instruction video, but their truck was an 06 and had a very large fuse/relay box.

There are 2 Fuses and 2 Relays associated with the FICM. Under the dash there is a 50 amp fuse and relay 304 (labeled IDM) there is also a 10 amp fuse and relay in the engine compartment (its the grey 4 pin one next to the fuse) under the black cover driver side firewall

I don't have it but Rusty Axlerod has a good diagram
of the boxes that shows what is where in a photo
of both the BJB and CJB. It's in the BJB
I do have a line drawing of the box and the relay/fuses.
It's from the Ford workshop manual for 2006

My first thought was to post the pics of the CJB's but they are for '06 and he mentioned his '05 is considerably different-under the hood at least. I think the diagrams you guys posted will work better for him.

No I can't disconnect the battery as you need power to complete the FICM tune.
Correct, those pics Bismic must be for the 06 and newer as mine is completely different under the hood.
I know about the ones under the dash but according to the (very limited and mostly useless) instructions from Innovative it is supposed to be under the hood.

Met mop says it's the grey one at the top left of my pic, but I just want to be absolutely sure before I fry my injectors. I sent an email to Innovative last night and I'll call them today to see what I can figure out from them.

The diagrams that you need should be in the owners manuals - fill in the drop-down boxes and you wil be taken to the owners manual and the diagrams are around pages 222-223.

Owner Manuals | fleet.ford.com

btw - my earlier link comes up with my picture album on wiring and j-boxes and the diagram for the under-dash j-box is the first to come up. However, if you "scroll over" to the left you will see the under-hood j-box. The diagrams are labeled.

yes, my album shows a 2006, but from what I can tell, the 05-07 are the same (someone correct me if I am wrong) as I just pulled up the 2005 owner's manual and compared it to my posted diagram - they were the same.

The link below will take you directly to the under-hood diagram in my album:

The FICM relay is labled IDM relay (304)

I called Innovative Diesel today and spoke to one of their techs. I sent him the pic at the top of this thread and he said the FICM Relay is the grey relay at the top left of the top block. I pulled it and the tune loaded very quickly. All of my other relays were black and they are shorter than the one grey relay.

Hope this helps other users.

Edit (my apologies for not seeing the Excursion in your sig) - You apparently have a 2004 engine in your Excursion. The owners manual omits the underhood jbox. The FICM relay is almost always gray.

Here is the diagram:

I had another issue with the Innovative Diesel (Superchips) FICM Tuner yesterday. Since I got the device I have been running the Performance tune but I was having cold start problems (I know that should not happen in Florida). So I wanted to switch it to the Inductve Heating tune.

As I was switching the tunes I ran across an error message (G-81) and it would not do anything, plus my truck would not start either. So needless to say I was freaking out. I called Innovative and they really didn't give the answer I was looking for. They said to keep trying to tune it, but I just kept getting the same error message.

So today I was able to go to the Superchips website and get the latest software update for the device and then everything went smoothly.

I'm sure I gained a few more gray hairs but after the update all is well. Plus the 6.0 starts and runs as smooth as glass now.
