Congratulations on finding that engine/trans combination - you'll be happy with that one. You also did well on your Explorer rear end - $75 is a great price.
We ended up going with a new wiper kit - Newport makes one, several other vendors - pricy at around $300. It's a pretty small space up under the dash where the wipers have to go so you want something small. I've heard of guys using Jeep wipers & Mini Cooper wipers.
Looking good in Montana - you guys get Spring up there yet?

Hi Ben, I think spring arrived Saturday and is gone again tomorrow, forecasting an inch of snow, LOL Oh well. I got home this afternoon with my new acquisitions. Took me an hour and half this morning to pull the rear end off that Explorer. Kinda slow with no heat wrench and just a ratchet. Many thanks for my 18 yr old for being a trooper and helping out. It looks great though! Could someone tell me or tell me the link to determine what I actually have here? Posi? Limited slip? ratio?
Also, here's a pic of the engine/tranny. A 302 out of an '84 F250 2x4. The guy said it is a C6 stuck on behind, but I'm lead to believe there are not a lot of those around? Another question.. how do I ID the tranny?

Here is a link to some pics of guides to determine the type of trans (I used the one that counts the bolts and shape of trans pan).

As far as the explorer rearend, there should be a tag on it bolted to the diff. bolts. There would be a number sequence like 3 50 or 3L 50, which would be a 3.50 ratio and no letter would be an open diff, while the 3L 50 would be a 3.50 ratio with a limited slip. Here are some pics:

So, have the engine torn down to the pistons and rods. The guy I bought this from said he had rolled the engine with a ratchet on the front of the crank. Not sure what decade that was! So I'm soaking the cylinders for awhile to try and get them loose. Any suggestions for a recipe for rust breaker on these things?

So, getting some work done on the hood and tailgate while building up cash to buy my new radiator. Will get my new engine stand next weekend, so can start pulling pistons. I couldn't believe the crank was in such a spot that could pull all 8 of the rod caps!
Oh yeah, very near ready to put a couple coats of rust encapsulater on the heater duct work that goes in the right front fender well

Five months since the last post Summer is always hell in "short summer" Montana. Got my son off to college, so now back to the truck! Purchased a Eastwood MIG 175 welder recently and have been fixing stress cracks and filling holes. 302 is all apart, ready to purchase a rebuild kit for it. Still looking for a Jag IFS. Anyone know of one within 700 miles of me? LOL I hope everyone else's projects of choice are going nicely. Oh, on a OT note... I'm retiring the end of the month!! Holy Crap

Congrats on getting the boy off to college and your change in employment status. Should have more time to play with the old iron.
By the way, your pic of the blower housing for a 48-50 fresh air system is the first I've seen. Mine was more of a ghost than a piece - glad you are in better shape.
