Diagnose this tranny issue; 99 3.0 Auto Ranger

Here is the problem I'm having with my 1999 3.0 Auto Ranger (138K).

Truck has been driving at least 15+ minutes. Shift transmission from D to Park. Shift from Park back to D and the transmission feels like it is slipping. Reverse works without slipping. Shift to Neutral or Park and rev the engine a few times, shift to D and the transmission does not slip.

The transmission does not slip on cold starts in the morning or after it has been sitting for an hour or two.

I'm hoping that this will be a relatively easy trouble shoot and DIY repair. I did replace the fluid, filter and valve body gasket last year (<10K miles)

Thanks in advance!

Assuming that you have checked the fluid level, and that maintenance has been done per the schedule, I would have to ask if the Ranger has been towed with all 4 wheels on the ground?

Fluid level is within the range. The trans fluid and filter was changed out last year. The truck has never been towed since I have owned it in 8 years. To add to the details this is a 2WD truck.
