DON'T USE FRAM FILTERS!!
Use Motorcraft, Wix or NAPA Gold.
There are several threads on this forum about Fram filters.
If the engine is in good shape use a quality 10W30 oil. Adding an additive containing ZDDP wouldn't hurt, there are also several threads discussing the low amount of zinc (ZDDP) in today's oil.
Personally I've never used Lucas products but I've never heard anything bad about them, only good things.

wix oil filters, mann if they have them, Napa gold I hear is fine and the pure one is ok as well from what I read.
I prefer mann/ wix over what I listed. I wouldn't add lucas myself.
I use rotella 15w/40 and some marvels mystery.

I would read carefully on the zddp stuff. After my reading I won't be adding any extra zddp to my oil.

I am sure you will get lots of opinions on this one.

Personally, I like Wix filters, not a big fan of fram after I started reading about a rash of engine failures due to the filter coming apart internally. Just my personal opinion.

On oil there are some that have the higher zinc content. If I remember correctly, Rotella comes to mind. I actually use the Walmart "Super Tech" (I think that's the name) in most of my vehicles and have had no problems. I might try the Rotella in my dentside, because the zinc compoud thing.

Just another opinion on oil. I personally will not use Penzoil because my grandfather told me about multiple (personal) cases where Penzoil caused a parafin build up under the valve covers of two of his vehicles. Both of which he bought new and only used Penzoil for the first 50K-60K miles before the condition was caught. True or not, just a story I heard as a kid.

**EDIT** Interesting read (chebby forum, but good info none the less) http://www.nastyz28.com/forum/archiv.../t-159555.html

I've used NAPA filters that have the NAPA number pasted over WIX numbers. So far what I could find out is that WIX makes NAPA filters.

I worked for NAPA for a few years. For what it's worth all of NAPA's filters are made by Wix, and the NAPA brand oil is bottled for them by Valvoline.

ZDDP and the detergents in today's oils get along like SST and aluminum, for lack of better analogy. Do some research before you just start dumping it in. Kendall was great, but is no more. High detergents now. The other high zinc that comes to mind is Joe Gibbs. Just a heads up

i got the oil changed. with the 10-30 penzoil and fram filter i was getting 15 psi during idle and 40 psi when driving down the hi way. with the 15-40 rotella and napa gold filter im getting 25 psi during idle and 60 psi when driving down the hi way im sure the numbers will go down after the oil wears down but so far so good. the guy at napa said i didnt need any additives with the rotella oil so i didnt buy anything extra. only thing that went wrong was i forgot to put my drain plug back in and spilled about 1 quart of oil on the driveway before i realized it

You'll do fine with Rotella T. I used to own a big truck and ran long-haul. This was back before the electronic engines. I heard guys talking about getting over a million miles out of Cummins and Cat motors running Rotella. It's a good high-quality oil.

As FarmTruck said, NAPA Gold Line filters are Wix filters. They're probably the best made filters on the market today. I wouldn't touch Fram with a ten foot pole. Didn't know about NAPA oil being Valvoline, though. Good to know...

The NAPA # is the same as WIX with two additional numbers on the extra long filter that I use . I use Rotilla synthetic and one of the wrap around magnets on the filter .

Napa filters are Wix for the most .An extra # at the front . Great filters . I do not have a NAPA close any more , I use O'Riley for filters . Wix is my filter of choice , if not Motorcraft .

Just like the FarmTruck1979 said, all NAPA filters are Wix. Metal internals instead of the cheap paper crap in the Fram filters.

FWIW, if you don't change oil on a regular basis, have just bought a new truck, or do a lot of "extreme" work, just spend the couple dollars more and get the gold filter. The silver and Proselect filters work just fine if you change your oil every 4-5000 miles.
