Yes. They came on suddenly. Truck did a couple of hard vibrations. I was like wtf. Then all of a sudden it was very slow to get moving off the line.

Uhmmm...

Have you heard of a fellow named John Woods?

Or there is this other guy, Brian... that might have the fix for that...

Stick a fork in it...

Well sorry to hear about the trans because it's done! Sound like the intermediate sprag came apart and I am sure it took out some other parts with it. Do you have a photo of the bearings and is there 34 of them? So is it a JW or BTS trans?

If it is a JW or BTS give them a call. They tend to stand behind their work.

23 needle bearings plus fragments. Also a graphite like residue, maybe fine metal or torque converter. I am not going to name the trans shop yet because i have not had the chance to talk with them yet. I am still waiting on an email response. And yes, it was one of the two favorite transmission shops from fte.

The reason I ask which of the 2 builders built it is the warranty. I would think that JW or BTS always install new spags. I myself when I rebuilt mine I did NOT replace any of of spags or races. Most rebuilder don't and actually they should be replaced at some point due to wear and mileage.

And as far as adding a photo you can upload to you photo album or garage and then link it to your post. Via {IMG} link

Ouch...that dont sound good. Im sure the 2 well known tranny shops will stand by there work. Its just the fact of the truck being down for who knows how long.

What is the diameter of the needle bearings? The Torrington thrust bearings have very small ”needles” and can also be found in some torque.converters. The sprags have larger ones, more like 1/4”, and I consider them ”rollers”. I upgraded to a HD 45 roller intermediate sprag. I am not aware of any upgraded ones for low/reverse or OD.

So is it an actual JW or BTS tranny...or simply their valve body in a stock transmission? I find it odd you don't have the tranny listed in your signature.

If it's either of those two guys' transmissions, I'm confident they will take care of you.

Very good point about it possibly being torrington bearing needles. The size of the needle bearing will tell alot. And you are correct sprags are actually rollers. But I for some reason always think of them as oversized needle bearing. Daaa

When you upgraded to the HD 45 roller IM sprag did it come with the outer race? Where able to reuse the old direct clutch housing. I am just wondering is the inner race for the sprag on the direct clutch housing work on both the 34 sprag and the 45sprag ?
