My old man used to be a mechanic and still does a lot of work on the side, very limited experience with diesels but im sure we could figure out most of the stuff. I still might have a shop do the egr cooler and oil cooler though, not sure how hard it is. We did do the oil cooler twice on my two 7.3s.

This failure can be catastrophic. So Bulletproof EGR cooler, or EGR delete is a good idea. You can monitor coolant and oil temps with a Scangauge2. This will give you an idea of how the oil cooler is performing.

As far as I know the warranty is the oasis report. When I was searching for a truck I requested one from the Ford dealer where the truck was for sale, and they printed one. You may need to have the owner get one for you.

Also a good idea is to search this forum. See what others say. There are some very knowledgeable people on here. After your test drive post your findings and questions.

I hope this helps.

Good luck on the test drive.
Thank you that explaination helps a lot on the functions of these coolers. How much does a new or rebuilt oil cooler cost? Im not sure if i can pony up the extra 2gs right off the bat for the bpd one..

Perfect, i will absolutely get one, although the owner does assure me he has never had an ounce of engine trouble from it.

Most people watch there delta and replace the oil cooler when or if necessary with a Ford unit. Also do a good flush to get all the crap out that can cause oil cooler clog.

A lot of owners change out the coolant also to a Extended Life Coolant. They believe the coolant is the problem in the first place. I am not getting into that debate, but it's something to think about. Most important is to watch those temps.
