79 f150 dash led's..plug in bulbs or rope light

New user here. I have been gaining info for some time though. I wish I'd have know about this forum years ago. ALL of you have been helpful and its been fun to really
dig into my truck and have the knowledge at hand, I'm ready to move a computer to my garage! okay enough BS...Little sleep this morning. I started to readjust my door in my 79 yesterday and it ended at 1:30 this morning after numerous other repairs. I have been changing my lighting on my dash panel and I finished off with my add on gauges this morning. I want to do the dash next, and call after work for the lamps. I was sold on super led's but then I saw this small rope light for your dash and with only two lamps for lighting,it seemed the rope would give you more visability. Any one use these rope lights for the dash, and or comments which you guys think would give the best results. Thanks....Mike

rope lights...."neon glow wire"

Sorry wrong term. I saw these at Whitegauges.net. Don't have time to post a pic. heading to work. it's a strand or neon that you rope around each gauge in you cluster.. the whole cluster. not just the two lights that are factory. I was leaning more to this.

Sounds interesting, picture would be great. I put the led lights in mine but was not impressed with them. It could be i got some cheap made ones from ebay. They never put out the light like their add showed . One for the turn signal burned out after being used just a few times.

Welcome to FTE! Lots of good guys (and Gals) here.

I think you are talking about these LED's.

The LED strips are pretty flexible and would work for your instrument panel if done correctly. I have used mine for courtesy lights and I plan on installing them in my instrument cluster soon.

Interesting new to me and look useful . Does it come in a roll and you just cut off what you need ? When you do the gauges how about starting a thread on how you do it ? Then i won't have to think so hard about how it's done , old guys like me don't want to over use our brains as we are starting to run short on brain power .__

I used the strip light LED in the dash cluster on my supercab build. Fully adjustable with the dimmer switch. I also used the LED strip in the heater control panel.

More pictures of how I did it here:

I wired them right to the back of the circuit board.
