Where to start?
So ok, I have been lucky with my 04. 68,000 carefree miles except for the loss of a turbo early. I bought the truck new. It seems to have a hybrid 03/04 engine. Some 03 things were fixed on this one. About a month ago I was hauling calves to market and the truck bucked some and finally threw a P2285 code. I came on home without too much problem. Put the SCT on and reloaded my tow tune. I had been noticing my fuel mileage was really down from what I had been getting but didn't think much of it.
Saturday I made a 200 mile trip one way to pick up a piece of equipment. The truck ran like a top. I get off the interstate coming home and I feel a miss. I get home, park the truck and start it again the next morning. Still missing. When I get home tonight I plan to clean the EGR valve as I have not done that in a while. What else I should be looking at? I did buy a ICP for the P2285 code but have not put it in yet as it never threw the code again.
Thanks

Thanks, I was going to clean the EGR last night but when I got home and started the truck the miss was gone so I decided to wait one more night and see if the miss comes back. If it does I would like to unplug the EGR just to see the difference. If the miss isn't back I plan to clean it anyway. I need to see if mine has the EGR plate also.

If it is indeed an intermittent miss you are noticing, I doubt you are going to pinpoint the faulty injector(s) unless you get your hands on a scan tool that is capable of viewing a live pictograph of all eight cylinders, and has the ability to disable the weak cylinder conpensation strategy like we have with our IDS scan tool at the dealer. I am pretty confident replacing the ICP sensor and wiring pigtail will resolve your P2285 (for now), but look forward to doing this as a regular maintenance assuming you have the early build 2004 with the 2003 engine.

Ok, I got my scan gauge II. Monitored the ICP and it appears to be pretty consistent at idle and road speeds. Set it up to monitor cylinder misses and none reported yet. I did notice when watching the current MPG (not average) that it will be running 12 and then jump to 24 for a couple seconds or 14 and jump to 28. It does this back and forth all the time. I had also notice my fuel consumption had gone to hell recently also.
Now, being in Fl when I start this thing on a cold morning say 38, it runs like it is only hitting on 4 cylinders. Runs really rough and as it warms it gets back top normal.

Ok, I finally got a chance to put the FICM in the scan gauge. I was driving back from my farm and kept a eye on it. It mostly stayed at 48.5. I did see it on 48.0 and I think I saw 47 but only once. I would say 98% of the time it was 48.5.
I started it up Sat morning and the outside temp was around 37 and it sounded like an old 2 cylinder JD tractor till it got warmed up. Once warm it starts and runs smooth.
