as far as the 7.3 idi going into the 78 chassis, who has done this, and how does it fit? i am thinking ill end up using the cross member/ motor mounts out of the 7.3 and modify it slightly to fit? let me know what you think
t hanks a bunch crazyredneck, ill be refering back to that article a few times im sure. i havent posted in a while because ive been looking for a dana 60 front, i found one last weekend and ive been cleaning it and the frame up. the axle didnt come with leaf springs so i dont have the bottom spring plate, does anyone know if the plates are the same from dana 44 to 60?
Ive used a few of these kits and the quality is top notch. Use the coupon code pbb10 for 10% off. It flips the ubolts upwards so nothing is hanging below the axle.

There's no need to change the front crossmember.
I set mine in where the damper is 1 inch off the x-member and the motor sits pretty level.
The motor mounts can be made up from the existing towers, sectioned (narrowed) , shortened and cap with 5/16 or 3/8 steel, sorry no pics.
Stock fuel tanks work fine just clean them out.
Return fuel line, weld/braze a nipple on the filler neck.
The oil filter falls right over the pumpkin so if your not going with a suspension lift you'll have to remote mount the filter.
Im assuming that by the coil springs your truck is an f-150. The f 250s have a different crossmember that sits farther back and its about twice as tall
No his truck is an f-250. Since yours was a 2wd the crossmember is still different. Ill see if i can get some pics to show what hes dealin with.
Here you can get an idea as to how tall the crossmember is,
