Every 1 of them has got a minimum of 200K. I might have changed the oil once or twice but nothing more than that. Still have that truck, empty or loaded she gets the same for mileage until I get above 55 (it's just geared that way). I get right around 18 in town & up to 22 on the road.

I personally have seen very few gas engines go beyond 300K regardless of how they are treated. I also have a 4.3 S10 Blazer (daily driver) that is hugging 175K & hasn't seen an oil change in at least 3 yrs. Not a single sign of wear (noise or large oil leaks). It uses a qt every now & then but I would expect that out of 175K. It gets 17.2 mpg, the entire time I have owned it.

Ironically I do change the oil in my toy (1970 SWB F100, 460cid).
In all fairness you could probably change your oil with water on a 300 I6, those motors were pretty indestructible. I have to agree that generally the base does not break down unless your engine is running hot, or it is in high pressure situation that also have a significant amount of heat, however, it's true that over time the additives that are put in the oil are consumed. A lot of the additives are added to enhance the characteristics of the base and when they are consumed, your base properties are changed. Some engines are not as picky about this, but if you have ever seen a late model 5.4L 3 valve that was neglected oil changes, pull the valve covers and look at the sludge build up and plan on replacing your cam phasers soon. Oil WILL break down in an engine, but I think some engines all less picky than others. To me it's relatively cheap "peace of mind" for me to change my oil.

I was workin on my ford and the float kept gettin stuck, my friend told me to grab a hammer and "Smack" it a few times. I wouldent do it so he grabbed the hammer and "smacked" it and cracked the carb in 3 different places... He bought me a junk yard 1bbl and a rebuild kit and and I showed him how to rebuild a 1bbl carb and explained to him why the hammer was a bad idear...

My uncle had an old 300 I6 F-150 (I think it was a 81). The float would stick on it sometimes so he would tap it with the back of a screwdriver. It usually would fix it, but smacking a carb hard with a hammer is a terrible idea. haha

Not to turn this into an oil change thread, when I change the oil in my 280Kmi 460 that oil and filter goes into my 300 I6

First one: Overheard and saw the result.... "Go ahead, it's clear!"

Last one: "It's not loaded"....

I've used a rubber mallet, or the plastic end of a screwdriver in a pinch. Waves at fordcrzymike Lightly tap, tap...

NEVER hit pot metal with a hammer, metal to metal. Yikes...

Ive used a socket and tapped on it and that would sometimes work, but I was pissed when my friend smacked it with a hammer!

I was at a gun store the other day and saw the clerk explaining to a couple why one particular shotgun was better for home defense because it's better for shooting from the hip. Then he explained why you'd want to carry it at the hip for clearing the house. I should have gone over and explained to all of them how wrong everything coming out of his mouth was. I could start a whole multi-page thread about home defense and how wrong all his advice was but this is a truck forum so I'll leave it alone except to say that of you think there is an intruder in your home DON'T clear the house. Barricade in place and call the cops. If there are other family members in the house quickly and carefully move to them and get everyone in the same room and barricade in and wait for the police.

That's not a facepalm for what he was saying, that's a facepalm for what you were saying.
