I can agree with that. Other than the 302 which is quite commonly known as the 5.0, most of the 90's engines are still commonly referred to by the cu. in. displacements despite most people also knowing the liter displacements. I'm fine with calling the "old" motors strictly by 300, 302, 351, and 460, and having the 2010+ motors called the 5.0 and 5.8.

With the revival of the 5.0 and 5.8 namesakes, hopefully they're bringing with it the longevity (both in operation, and in production life) and reliability of their namesakes as well. If they do it, I would love to see the 300 I6, and 460 return with variable valve timing and direct injection for an improvement in power and fuel economy while still touting all of the original motor's strong points.

300 I6 Twin Turbo Eco-Boost? That would be interesting....

I gotta say that makes me chuckle. I'd give anything for Ford to bring back our baby with some flare. Might even be enough to make me buy a new truck.

If they were to do it, I'd want the low revving, high torque characteristics of the 300 I6 instead of another high RPM capable 6 cylinder like the 3.5 Ecoboost. The 3.5 eco puts out impressive torque numbers down low, but imagine another 1.4 liters and a motor designed more for torque rather than high rpm performance...

Ahhh a modern 300. That makes me grin lol

It would be neat. I do hope Ford is keeping with the faithfulness and toughness of these new 5.0 and 5.8. These engines (Windsor family) pretty much ran unchanged (minus a few small things, like roller ready blocks and such) for close to 30 years. From the Late 60's to late 90's. And they have a name they have earned that doesn't need to be ruined.

Although it would be cool, I don't really see the 300 I6 coming back out. Sad really, when you imagine its torque potential with twin turbos and 4 valve heads.
