Again, you want MPG and save money, use the 300 and 4 speed.
Any V8 and a C6 will decrease your economy. The 300 isn't great on mpg's but it will be better than any V8 short of a modern one.
FYI, the 351w came out in 1969 in cars. They were put into truck around 83-84ish. EFI came in 1987.
