A coworker of mine has a 2005 F350 XL extended cab, 4x4, with an 8ft bed. It has 240k miles and everything works great except for the HPFP just went out a few weeks ago. She is trying to get rid of it but wants $1500 for it. Would this be a good price? How difficult is it for me to replace the HPFP if I'm not in a hurry to get this thing up and running. The dealership wants $3k to fix it, but I think I can do it myself if I just take my time and find parts at the junkyard.
Really I want something I can drive to work when there is inclement weather... I almost had a heart attack a few weeks ago when it hailed and my 2008 F250 King Ranch was sitting in the work parking lot.
Looks like overwhelmingly the answer is I should get it. If I can find a place to put it while I tear it apart, I'll be grabbing it next week. If I can't get it, I'll be taking bids to her starting next week
Let me know. I might can do more depending on the rest of the truck. Shoot I you wanted to buy it then I would buy it from you. That way you can make 500 or just for being the middle man.
I'll talk to her again tomorrow about it. If she decides they want more than 1500 for it, i'll let y'all get in touch with her... I really do want a good project truck and something I wouldn't care to drive to work when there are hail chances. After April 30 I am moving to a buddies house on 4 acres with a 40x40 shed, so I will have plenty of space to tear this thing apart.
Anyone have input on what is involved with the pump replacement? I can't spend another $3k at the dealership, but i'm pretty handy with a wrench and as long as I can take my time and don't need it ASAP, I don't mind getting dirty and tearing crap apart.
