75 F-250?

Okay so this 75 Ford F250 4wd has been sitting in the town next to mine it looks very solid has a flatbed. and a little rust on the door skins. i looked quick the paper said fresh c6 tranny with a shift kit and a fresh v8gasser cant remember size but its big. they are asking 4500 for it. i am not a ford guy at all but am in need of a truck and always liked the older fords. my only concerns are drivability and the carb/age. i need something that will be reliable, gas mileage isnt huge because i have a car but needs to be semi reasonable. i need a truck to scrap in the summer maybe plow in the winter and not look like a tool driving a cavalier into tractor pulls/ country concerts etc. its been sitting a while and wont be supprised if it sits for a while longer. what are some problems i should look for is it worth it at that price should i just wait and get a newer full size im just worried about the age. would it be that hard to fuel inject it or if its a nice engine sell it and swap a deisel in? im sorry for my lack of knowlege on fords please bear with me. ill snap pics when i pick my car up from the garage tomorrow or wensday. thank you

Howdy,

I dont want to leave you hanging, so from a guy who bought a dent side a few years ago and now am trying to sell it (looking for something diff). Even in newer trucks they arent flawless, it could be mechanically sound or just looks good, sometimes both. My suggestion always inquire about what needs done and what has been done (not just recent). It would be helpful for some of us to see pictures to help you asses the truck. Thank you im today im going right from college to work so I doubt ill have any time today its a nice looking truck and I figured 75 is beofre all the computer bull and im pretty good mechanicly, and have 24 hour access to my cuzs shop with a lift. Thank you for your hospitality and pics will be up tomorrow afternoon

Western ny you don't see many of them around here only oyher one I've seen is my uncles that sat in our barn for years most older trucks that have been used are usually rusted into the ground litterally

My thoughts are that these trucks can be very dependable, but things will go wrong and it's not the best tool for every job. Best if you have a back-up or secondary vehicle you can drive when needed (like 25 miles to the airport, when the brake lights go out, etc.)

I also think that you need to get a vehcile that's "fun" to drive. I had a 66 Mustang, a 72 CJ, a 73 Cutlass Supreme, and some other ones, too. Test drove a 73 F100. Bottom line is that these just weren't "fun" like my 75 F250 and 70 Bronco are to drive. Gotta enjoy the ride.

i have a cavalier as a gas milage commuter car. im just worried 75 is a lil old to have it towing hauling and everything i want to do i dont care about comfort i have a car for that i dont care about the harsh ride. but if the drivetrain is fresh it shouldnt be a problem the reason im looking for a truck is because my s10 blazer is exhausted. i worked it way too hard over the summer. it can only tow so many explorers to the junk yard. we had one filled woth metal it weighed 8000 pounds! that was not good for the blazer at all. im just a college student hoping to scrap in the summer and maybe plow in the winter to hopfully pay my college bills 5000 a year which isnt bad but still

A 75 more than likely has a 360 in it, possibly a 390. These were good engines, but they will drink gas. I would not be surprised to get 8-10 mpg from one, loaded or empty; as long as the enginge is properly tuned. I would be surprised to get anything over 11 mpg.

IIRC the tank in the cab is 16 gallons, so not a lot of longrange potential there.

I had a 75 when I was stationed on Adak, AK-- 390 4Spd 4x4 4.10 gears that got 6 mpg. The carb was toast on it though. In lowrange and 1st gear I could get out and walk faster than the truck.

Ya I figured im not to concerned I wish it was a diesel if its not outragely expencive I would look into fuel injecting it. Which would help it some

If you get a Dentside and get everything mechanical on it working correctly, there is no reason you can't tow loads with it. I ranch for a living. The only pickup I've got with a gooseneck hitch in it is my '76 Crew Cab. I haul cattle, hay, tractors, etc. with it. I once pulled a 26,000 pound load with it. I regularly drop a one ton pallet of cattle feed in the bed and haul it home from town. Just like any other vehicle, it takes up-keep. Take care of it, it'll take care of you.

Wait sorry for my ignorance dentside? is that like a flareside? ya he says its not worth the price and i wouldnt like it

I missed the price when I replied. To me, for $4500.00, the truck had better be in excellent shape. Not carshow excellent, but get it and drive it anywhere with no worries.

What size are the tires and wheels? 16.5's are getting kind of hard to find, and the 16" lock rings are difficult to find a place that will change the tire. You could be looking at having to buy new wheels.

I think I would pass on this one. Unless the seller will come down to under 3.

okay thats what i was looking for ill post pictures tomorrow 45 is a lil high but with a fresh engine tranny and what looks like a new flatbed. ill have pictures tomorrow if i can get it for three that would be awesome
