Need help on extra cab build

Hi, everyone I'm 14 years old and just joined FTE. i have a 1971 f250 highboy regular cab on 33s. I love these old fords and I think they look sweet. But anyways did they make a extra cab version of the 67 to 72 highboy? Or are there just crew cabs and single cabs. If they make a extra cab I would really like to make mine one so I can haul my friends around ( but all my friends hate fords and love Chevys so why they ride with me lol) or how hard would it be to by another single cab and cut in half and make a custom extra cab? I'm Only 14 so I don't know much on this kind of stuff so all help would be greatly appreciated.

The Super Cab was introduced in the next series ('73-'79) pickups. The bumps came in crew & regular cabs. Your largest challenge in building one from scratch will be extending the frame. It somewhat depends on how much you want to extend it. If you only want an additional 16" you could extend the cab & swap out your LWB bed for a SWB bed. If you want more than 16" You will be looking at modifying the frame. Or you could sell the truck you have and purchase a '73-'79 Super Cab.

Would building this just take away on the value even if it looked good? I could just see some people thinking this is "wrong" and don't want a truck with that done to it

Here is what you have when you modify a vehicle. While a modification may increase the value it reduces the number of potential buyers. Note I said may increase the value. Basic rule of thumb is the closer to original it is the easier it is to sell along with fetching more money. Your proposal is a perfect example. I do not like extended cabs. I have owned a few & just don't like them. So you are attempting to sell your truck when finished. I am not interested. It goes that way with any modification. The more modifications you have the more difficult it becomes to sell.

My truck is another example. Front suspension swap, you can count out all the folks who don't believe in doing things like that to a truck. IRS, once again now out of the remaining group you will have a group that do not want an IRS. Shaved handles, some people will not own a vehicle with shaved handles so now out of the remaining potential buyers it reduces once again. I could go on. A custom vehicle is usually an expression of the builder. It may/will not appeal to many others except to look at. Even then some will just hate it as it has been modified.

There's one that was featured on a four-wheel drive website. It's homemade but it has some high-quality bodywork done to it, so much so that the website misspoke and said that '72 was the first year for the supercab (it was actually 1974, in the "dentside" era).

Please understand though, to get the truck to this point it probably took A LOT of time, money and knowledge, none of which are things that 14-year-olds are known for having. Don't give up hope, though! I joined this site when I was 16 and clueless, and through practice and education now I'm 21 and slightly less clueless! If this is something you seriously want to consider doing, you will be able to do it. Just know you will have to do a lot of homework and fundraising beforehand.

I may be wrong but that looks like a dent cab that has been modified to look like a bump. It appears there is no drip rail across the top of the windshield. What is the site it is located on? Maybe a link to the article. Nice looking though.

Did a little looking around. I would have no problem saying that is a dent cab. Might even be dent doors with the bump added. They just don't look right to me. It would be the far easier route to take. Not sure what the point was with this truck. Probably just a "because I can" deal. Could have just as easily left it a dent and had just as nice a truck. Of course he does have the only 1.
