Did this happen suddenly, or did it slowly get worse over time (as in, taking a long time to engage forward when cold)?
Sounds like a rebuild is needed. If the delay when cold was present before the total loss of forward gears, it's likely from a rubber seal inside the trans. $2 part, but total trans disassembly required to get to it, might as well have it rebuilt and go another 150K or so.

My C6 was doing the same thing, I rebuilt it and found the forward clutches were completely worn down.
