Yea thats how my wifes 76 comes out ill have to see if i have a pic. I like that too but um not sure if i would like it on a 2wd. Heres kinda what i like comin out the back I like the width apart and how they are almost flush with the bumper it looks nice and clean.
I've got a similar setup under dad's truck. I prefer the rear exit when using glasspacks. With side exit and glasspacks, there can be a bit too much noise in the cab, out on the highway. Especially with a warmed up 390 like the one in dad's 74 F100. The rear exit can be heard when you want to, but tends to be much quieter in the cab cruising down the highway.
Here is a couple of pictures with my step bumper and then with the new sport bumper, both of which are exiting the rear. And yes, it is the same truck.
Hey MAUL I say your build thread on that sucker that thing is nice! It seems like those tips stick out quite a bit past the bumper. I think im gonna end up goin straight out the back too but the tips will probably only stick out about an inch or so.
My current exhaust is pretty much stock but it's cut off with a turndown before the axle. So it dumps out on the right side before the axle, under the bed. I'd like to get some coated headers and dump duals in about the same spot under both sides of the bed. I like em' dumped under the bed of my truck, but on shortbeds I kinda like them dumped out of the side before the wheels. Pipes out of the back aren't bad either, or ones that dump out of the side after the axle...It's your choice though...

Yeah, as I have mentioned before, the exhaust was installed before I switched bumpers. The previous step bumper showed a more suitable amount of pipe. I am going to have to rework the exhaust a little anyway due to the difference in engines. When they have it on the rack, I'll have it set back a little so it isn't sticking out so much.

Yea thats a sweet ride tho man. I think once you get em recessed a little more like your sayin they will look perfect. I think im gonna run em like that im gonna go do some measuring and see how wide i wanna run em. Ive still got a week to decide tho and i have been known to change my mind before lol. I might go out with the tips and have the wife hold em up so i can see em maybe hell i dunno.
This is an idea i had turning the angle on end kinda so that the angle is even with the bedside. I dont know if you can see what im talkin about in this picture or not.
Both setups were true duals, no mufflers, with 4x18 tips. I'm going for the exits in front of the rear tires. My favorite so far was the second pic, though.
When they came out the back, if I pulled a trailer, the noise would reverberate off of the trailer and make for a noisy ride.
4 BONES! That's a smokin deal. That looks good there too.
The truck came with a relatively new glass pack, but all the pipes were rotted away. I had cut the 2 1/2" pipes off my old dually before I sold it. I bought the 90 degree elbow and used all the old pieces to weld up a nice system. It has a pretty good sound too. Everyone swears it's a V-8 when they hear it, but it's just a 300 six.
