If it will creak while tuning the wheels sitting still, crawl under there and listen while someone turns the wheels. If you lay your hand on suspected parts you should be able to feel whaat is creaking.

I'm having the same problem, but I've replaced ball joints, radius arm bushings u-joints, shocks, and repacked the wheel bearings. the only thing I can think of that I havent done is replace the pivot bushings. How much of a pain will that be?

sorry for the thread Highjack Thumper19.

Radius arms that hard? I have removed mine 3 times. Only 2 bolts keep those suckers in place. One on each end.

What is the pivot bushing?

I got a similar problem on my 87 f150 4.9L 4x4 when Im making turns I can hear a distinct "pop" not sure what side its on, think its the right side though and no idea what part. all the suspension on it is old and most liekly worn out. I've never checked the ball joints. just tried lubing them this past weekend though

Anyone know how to check for worn axle pivot bushings?

I to have a clunk, clang, crunch sound from the front end when hitting bumps. Everything is new from 2 years ago, and greased every oil change. Shocks are new ish used from my parts truck, I did keep the original cracked bushings though.

I just get a big screwdrivwer and pry forward and back with the truck on the ground. You're going to get some flex out of it, it's rubber. You can try to pry up or pick up on the I beam (or TTB) with a jack

Popping while turning and or flexing, even over small bumps, is known to be a symptom of the transmission crossmember.
It SOUNDS like it's farther forward.
There are a lot of threads on this, if you use the search function.

What could be wrong with the tranny cross member?

The rubber tranny mount, i'm sure can go bad.... but are you talking about the cross member it's self?

That is what it was!

I have searched for 2 days straight and cant find any info more about it. Some just said they drilled the rivets holding the crossmember and ran bolts through. Do you know anything about this?

Clearly if you were able to state there are " a lot of threads on this" you must know something I can not find.

I'm not sure if it did that before I replaced the clutch or not, but when I put the cross member back in its all lined up correctly and with new hardware. The mount for the tranny didnt look great but it didnt look bad since it was covered in oil from an oil leak. I'll look into it though, thanks
