How many of your trucks are daily drivers?

My 78 F150 regular cab, 351m/C6 is a daily driver, plus errand duty on the weekends. I did a poll a while back as i wondered how many of us actually use these old trucks as much as a newer truck.....

I was surprised that not as many use them for daily driving. My truck gets the same 13/14mpg as my wife's 2000 honda passport 2wd. I love the head room, leg room, and big bed. I dont like the missing amenities and sound proofing found in newer trucks. If i had a chance to do it again....I'd get an extended cab or 4 door '78f150. Good luck on your decision.

Mine was a daily driver by default last year. When the motor in my 2001 blew the 77 came in to full time duty. It made me realize the work that it still needs. So now that that the 01 is up and running I'm putting some work into refining the 77. With a little work I'll make it my summer driver again.
The fuel mileage was as good or better than my 01 powerstroke. I don't have a speedo that work so I was going off of my weekely routine and the cummins used less fuel. I'm guessing it was 16-18 mpg.

I would love to drive mine everyday. 1978 F250 4x4 reg. cab, 400 C6. But salt on winter roads and 3 kids to and from school and babysitter is what limits me. Wish I could find an extended cab, but I've had my current dent side since I was 17 and hate not being able to drive it daily, so weekends will have to suffice.

Funny you should ask mileage, How about yards? Last time I had to fuel up the gas attendant asked me to shut off the engine because he couldn't keep up so I revved the engine and sucked him in my gas tank. Now I drive around with a pair of sneakers hanging from my fuel door.
I feel your pain. I run the 460 with a Holley Dominator, Comp RV cam, and Eddy intake, and I think i can better calculate my mileage in gallons per mile.
I thought about taking the "F-O-R-D" off the hood and replacing it with H-O-O-V-E-R. needless to say mine is NOT a daily, but I do drive it regularly...from my house...to the gas station...and back, and then repeat!
I have a diesel conversion for my 79 in the very near future. Then it WILL be a daily.
