I recommend fully welding the sytem except for where they can be disconnected and removed when necessary. In this case, opt for stainless OD/ID clamps ($10 ea).

Hangers: Universal steel strap hanger (Jegs PN 555-30815, $6) and tubing clamps from your local parts store.

Thanks. I knew you had done something similar and was hoping you would chime in.

I was planning on FCAW welding everything, except the cats in case I ever wanted to hollow them out. Did you paint your whole system?

You'e welcome. ..Yes. Its painted with Rustoleum High Heat silver... and of course, black at the tip.

I'd gut the cats at the outset if it's only a visual in NC. The vibration and stiffness of these rigs will dislodge/crack their innards in short order. 'Might as well do it once and do it now.

And if anyone is wondering why the Spiral Flows are offset, it made for a smaller package and they are actually the same length from the header flanges. I dunno if it made any difference performance-wise but it sounded like a good theory at the time!

Do you have any sound clips/video of your exhaust HIO? Interested to hear what that sounds like.

HIO Silver's Exhaust Clip

Sleepy, Devino, NW150 !

Here's the clip:

I blip the throttle twice, run it up to 2,000 RPM, and then to 3,000 RPM.

Here's the most recent video of my exhaust, for reference to flowmasters, taken with a gopro camera:

Sounds good fellas! Thanks for the tunes.

I bet that sounds great at WOT HIO! Gotta get out of range of the HOA for that though

Has anyone done their own headers for a 2WD?

I just bought a set of headman headers for a 351W (longtubes) that used to be on a mustang for $20 a piece. They're older and a bit on the rusty side, but I figure it's a good investment for when I want to make my own headers that will fit my set-up.

I can always sand blast them and paint them up after I'm done messing with them, but it'd be nice to see another persons journey with making their own headers fit right.

Sounds nice. I couldn't decide between 40's or a glasspack. Eventually went with a glasspack (just recently installed too)

How loud are glasspacks? If they're about the same as this 40 series+exhaust leak, I may just go that route.

BTW, change of plans: I'm gonna have the exits behind the rear tires(like stock). Gonna have to move my mudflaps forward a bit, but I think that would fit this truck better.

I would try searching youtube for examples of glasspacks to give you an idea of the sound. It's not any louder than a 40 series it's just a different sound. I like the sound of a straight through muff more than the chambered myself. I run Dynomax Bullets 4"x16"

Mine isn't terribly loud. Once you get above 30mph you don't hear it that much (unless you gun it). Sound comes back at about 50-55mph. Once the truck is warm, the sound is slightly louder in the cab (The sound at 10mph gets you rattles )

Here's what mine sounds like. 36" long muffler, 2 1/4 pipes stepped to 2 1/2 for muffler, no cat, 2-1 system
In Cab and out of '79 F250 w/glasspack - YouTube

The shape of the glasspack will have affect how it sounds. Long and smaller diameter (say, 36" by 4" diameter body) will have a deep rumble at idle. A shorter, larger diameter one (12" by 5" diameter body) will have a sharp crack when the engine is revved.
