water pump leak 94 bronco - picture

I have a coolant leak out of a hole underneath the water pump. I attatched a picture to show where the leak is coming from and leaks mostly when the engine is running. It's not a quick leak but when i run to the store and back i have to top of the radiator making it not a reliable commuter rig. Would this require a new or rebuilt pump or should i pull it off and reseal it? 94 Bronco 351W

Sorry to say But that looks as if the pump is bad. Good news is that you can get a re-man for about 25 bucks or a new lifetime warrenty for 40 at Autozone. I did it in about 2 1/2 hours bot I flushed and back flushed my coolant system. It is worth the time and money. Just my .02 Good luck

Ya it was easy to do, you can get the flush fluid at Autozone aswell and the instructions are all on the bottle. I also while I had everything apart I replaced the front main seal because it had started to leak a little. But I have noticed a big differance in how hot the air blows in the cab and how cool the temp gauge reads now. Best of luck.

If you're gonna flush the fluid, might as well swap in a new thermostat for $6!

New cap too and maybe heater hoses......fix it all while the coolant is drained....cheap and easy.

Yes...... it is called a weep hole.....it is designed to let you know when the mechanical seal on your water pump bearing has failed......and yours is toast unfortunately...

You may want to consider a new timing chain set if you are at 150-200K miles. It is not but about $50 plus gaskets and sealant while you have the A/C bracket swung out, altenator etc. out of the way.

If you decide to do the flush, do it before replacing the pump, the debris from the flush could damage the new one, and i'm sure you don't want that. Oh! and consider replacing the fan-clutch, since you're getting there already (those two have the Romeo & Juliette syndrome, they like to go together).

These guys all have GREAT points aswell they would all be things to do for just a few bucks more and a couple of hours (maybe) then you dont have to sweat it later. Not sure where you live but I would be willing to help if you were in my area. Best of luck and happy wrenching.

I did this water pump replacement on my 1990 Bronco, 302,
It's a big job, I also took off the radiator and took it to be flushed at the radiator shop.

I used a Ford new water pump after comparing it to the reman that I got first at O'Reily's, there is a difference. Just looking at the water pump you can see why Ford gets a premium for theirs.
