F350 2004 front end question

I had a rattle in the front end, found to be worn sway bar bushings. I purchased the kit from LMC and pulled the sway bar out, only to find that the ends are different than the new bushings. The stock parts appear to be a combination of rubber, grease, and (rusted) metal and the new are simply two pieces of polyurethane, a brass bushing and large washers.

My question is how do I get all the old stuff out so I can slip the new bushings in?

People sometimes use a torch and burn them to soften the rubber then pick the pieces out. A press and press them out.
or
What i did is bought the complete end links at NAPA.

I think I will go to a friends garage and try the press. If that goes wrong, can I buy the end links with no bushings and use the nice hard ones I already have?

All set, a propane torch, 3lb hammer and a 15/16 socket. Heat and beat. What a difference, no more rattle over the bumps.
