Fuel Filter Question

I have a 1962 Ford F100 with a 233 / Single Barrel Carb. The previous owner installed an electric fuel pump and installed two inline fuel filters (One before the fuel pump and one before the carb). I'm about to dump the fuel from the tank to clean/possibly replace, replace the fuel lines, electric pump and filters. Should I stay with that configuration? What are your thoughts on me installing some kind of fuel petcock after the fuel tank to help me replace that first fuel filter and not get bathed with fuel?

Any thoughts will be appreciated.

Thx

I seem to recall someone saying that the fuel line from the tank comes up over and back down'' so your not going to get a whole lotta gas coming out when you disconect the rubber hose from under the tank! ..let me know, cause I need to replace mine too,..lol

Huckdueceman, I changed out the lower fuel filter when I first got the truck and a good quantity of fuel came out. Have a plug ready and don't wear you favorite t-shirt. Lol

It depends on if you have a canister fuel pump with a spin on filter or not. Some of my cars don't have that so I have a filter before the pump and then the one at the carb as seen on many Autolites. If the pump has a canister filter then I still screw in the filter at the carb. I don't want debris flowing through the pump either.Stock cars so fuel flow isn't an issue with the stock lines or I would go next size larger.

Thanks for the info TBM3FAN! I've been using the Napa 3006 fuel filter, what do you recommend?

At the carb I use the standard Motorcraft filter that fits all 2100 and 4100 carbs. Before the fuel pump I use a basic Fram metal canister filter.
