super duty conversion help
Hello great people of FTE.
I am here this morning to get a better understanding of my future plans to drop a 6bt 12v in a 2002 super duty.
i want to back it with a bad boy 700 R4 AOD and want to know if that combo with manual 4x4 would be a good set up.
Also wondering about the power assist power steering as well as the fuel pump compatibility in the fuel tank.
My main goal is to build an all mechanical vehicle with no eletronics effecting the starting and running of the truck but have it in a more modern super duty body.
can someone shed some light on my subject?
am i going in the right direction?
Thanks in advance and I look forward to chatting with some of you.

I am glad to see you doing this too I am doing a 99 f350 with a98 6bt 12v using all the dodge manual stuff trans and trans case
for the lift pump I have a electrical gear pump has worked flawlessly on my dodge and will get transferred to ford
ignition heater go to fourthgen.com there heater is fantastic
from what I have been told the ford uses 4 for pick up sense on tach all you have to do is cut 2 slots in the vb dampener I am not sure if you can use the dodge sensor or if you have to buy one from like fordcummins
if any one knows how to make the tach work I would be interested

Do it!!!
Hmm, good idea.
Just finishing up my 6BT, 6 spd, manual t/case conversion on my Ex.
Dont need anything for fuel system. The lift pump and injection pump are engine mounted/driven. I also love the mechanical (non-electronic) setup.
Drove mine yesterday for first time! I am not disappointed to say the least. Cant wait to tow my trailer, as that is where my V10 was at its worst.

Awesome im glad to see a couple replies already as i wake up. So you oviously had no problems converting from gas to diesel. That was my worry as to the compatibility of the tanks and what not. also is there any sort of mechanical power steering option to bypass the electronic contolled power assist power steering?
How much did your conversion run you if i might not ask. My dad told me the old 12v 6bt drops right into a superduty so im very adiment on doing all the work myself.

If your donor engine has the Dodge crank sensor you can have two more notches machined in crank pulley for a total of four. It depends on the year of truck, but I know mine required four pulse. Unfortunately I had my engine balanced before I found out about this and had to use a trigger wheel. I used one from Diesel conversion specialists(ie fordcummins). I would have got one from Destroked, but I got fed up with their customer service or lack there of!

Fuel tank is fine. I dropped mine and removed electric pump. Made a tube to go from bottom of tank to access cover. I used all the Ford lines from there to the front of the frame where the fuel filter used to be. Then I ran fuel line up to the inlet and return on the engine. That part was pretty easy.

Hes talking about the 700r4 AOD trans i was asking about.
and as far as i know a standard bad boy trans without any upgrades
can handle 450hp and 450lbs of torque.
i dont think i would be going over that even with the fuel pump maxed...
if i were then they also upgrade the components to handle race conditions.
IE hard shifts and high RPM's. heres the link...
High Impact 700R4 "Bad Boy" Automatic Overdrive Transmission
thanks for your info guys.
i guess i should look into talking to the conversion specialists since they drop these things in super duties all day.
just building my SHTF rig for next december. this will be me from the top of the mountian

The 1989–1993 Dodge Ram pickup engines were rated at 160 horsepower (119 kW; 162 PS) and 400 pound-feet (542 N·m). The fuel systems for these Dodge Rams featured Bosch injectors and Bosch VE mechanically controlled fuel injection pumps. Intercoolers were added 1991. In 1994 when Dodge introduced the completely restyled Ram, changes were made to the 6BT as well. The fuel systems for these Dodge Rams featured different Bosch injectors and a de-tuned Bosch P7100 mechanically controlled fuel injection pump. The 1994–1995 6BT was rated at 160 horsepower (119 kW; 162 PS) and 400 pound-feet (542 N·m) when equipped with the 47RH automatic transmission, and 175 horsepower (130 kW; 177 PS) and 420 pound-feet (569 N·m) when equipped with the NV4500 manual transmission. The 1996–1998 6BT was rated at 180 horsepower (134 kW; 182 PS) and 420 pound-feet (569 N·m) when equipped with the 47RE automatic transmission, and 215 hp (160 kW; 218 PS) and 440 pound-feet (597 N·m) when equipped with the NV4500 manual transmission.
IS there a better AOD on the market that can handle that stock?
if not maybe ill just order one built to suit the 6bt. im sure its not the bad boys first walk around the block with this situation.

i have nothing against manual dont get me wrong....but would you be able to drive stick if your leg was broken?
the bad boy says it can be further customized to fit almost any application.
im also in the market for the superduty to convert.
this seems like a great deal, anyone else agree?
granted it has power windows and door locks but thats the least of my electrical worries
