For reliability the stock setting with beefed up shift pressure is BY FAR your best option when deleting. If you want fuel economy you are going to need to run a tune in the 150+hp range. 6.4s are not known for their fuel economy, they are known for their ability to make power and to cost you HUGE amounts of money if you go full tard mode. The name of the game with a 6.4 is cylinder pressure. You start advancing timing and fuel and you will start blowing head gaskets and cracking pistons. The best mpg comes with the race tunes, but that's going to increase wear.

The Spartan platform has by far and away the best trans tuning of any canned tunes. If you keep it below 150hp you should be fine. The 5r110w is a monster of a transmission and you have to actively try to kill it. The one thing I will say with Spartan is if you run any of the higher tunes you really do want traction bars. Super dutys suffer from really bad axle wrap and it wreaks havoc on the driveline and handling. Also if you are going to be towing heavy or running the truck hard an upgraded direct drive solenoid for the trans really does make a huge difference. Our trucks have issues with the 3-5 shift (its actually the adaptive learn ability in the tcm) and they will tend to slam into gear. More often then not its the downshift from 5-3 that starts doing the damage, then eventually it will start doing it on the up shift as well.

I just deleted mine a couple of weeks ago. Amazing difference. I have only run the 210Tow tune and that is all I plan to run. Mileage is way up on the highway, the drive ability is now amazing.

I bought a Spartan , Phalanx II for my 2008 , 6.4 , i have not yet done the delete just installed a S&B cold air intake , is it ok to use the tuner undeleted until I take the dpf off? or do I have to do the deletes to run it ? , I realize I won't get the full benifit until I do the deletes.I do plan to take the dpf, off in a month or so when I have more time on my hands.

Just like Crazy said, as long as you have the tuner set to DPF ON tunes then it'll be fine. If you're running dpf OFF tunes then you need to change back to dpf on ASAP.
