Based on another thread, https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...ndle-this.html, this was determined that the tuner was the issue.

 

I used to think that too but later learned that isn't always the case. I have now personally seen two trucks with severely restricted screens in the tank yet the fuel pressure at the bowl was quite high at idle. The real benefit of a fuel pressure gauge is watching the pressure while under load and that is a good indicator of fuel flow (or lack there of...)

Interesting. I wonder why the OP didn't post an update? I wonder how many repair shops keep $600 Superchips on hand...??? Does Superchips make a plug in style chip? I thought they all were the uploaded kind...

 

I was wondering the same thing, wasn't aware superchips had a plug in style, just the programmers?

 

My truck had a Superchips chip on the truck when I bought it. It was pretty worthless by the way. The DP is way better.

 

I have had this exact problem with my truck lately. No start, engine light on, wts light come on and go off right away. Sometimes I would be going done the highway and the truck would stall for no reason. Changed cps and fuel filter, checked fuel pressure. Everything was good . I finally pulled the BD Power chip and now everything is working 100 percent. I am now in the market for a new chip or tuner. Hope this helps.

In the market, can go wrong with custom tunes, many run DP tuner, Clay sells them as well. Riffraff Diesel Performance Parts: - DP Tuner
Others to consider would be Tyrant Diesel Custom tuning, Power Hungry Performance Power Hungry Performance - Feed your hunger for POWER!, or Tony Wildman 7.3L <I>Power Stroke</I> Chip among others I'm sure I missed.

 

The Superchip Cortex Tuner cost $455, the rest was diagnostic fees. The tuner/programmer/whatever it is plugs into the port under the dash and allows me to change between 4 different tunes. Wipes out what is in the trucks computer, and uploads a new tune. It also allows me to adjust speedo calibration for different tire sizes, read check engine codes, and lots of other stuff. I don't really hot rod my truck so this works for me.

The old Superchip actually plugged into the side of the computer itself. It was probably 10 or 12 years old according to the shop. I didn't even know it was there, guess the previous owner put it in.

 

I had this happen four times. Put in a new fuel pump three times and the forth time I droped the tank and somebody had dumped something in the melted the screens and all kinds of things. Fixed that, changed the fuel pump never had another problem. Also as said above, I had a superchip plug in once because the tuner, earlier model messed up my trans, it went out just unpluged it everything was well. You didn't just fill up did you. I brought a car one time from the neighbor and they put diesel in a gas car and it just stoped. If you fill your hole tank up with gas, not good. Sounds like fuel pump to me, keep us posted. I don't think IDM is your problem. Codes would help to the guys on here that read them. Chet

 

So you got it fixed! I got rid of mine and went with DP tuner and never looked back.

I did not say to check the gauge at idle so i do not understand your disagreement. My fuel pressure gauge is permanently mounted to my truck.

 

Loose chip? Nothing a little gorilla tape can't fix!
I wish we knew he had a chip when he posted, that would have been an early suggestion/check of mine.

These trucks shake just about anything loose that's not glued/taped/bolted/welded on. Just give her some time, she can dance.

 

Apologies, I should have phrased that differently. I probably assumed you meant at idle. My mistake. I used to think a fuel pressure gauge under the hood was good enough but now I prefer the in-cab type or at least some way of watching the gauge while under load.

 

Yeah, I agree...it would have been nice to know about the chip at the beginning. Sounds like it was news to the OP as well...at least he got it fixed and is back on the road.

For sake of discussion....let's assume the OP did know about the chip, we might still not have known about it anyway because it looks like he was posting for help from his cell phone so the list of mods doesn't show in his signature. I think this is becoming more of an issue on this forum as more of us use our smart phones to access the site.

I wonder if there is something in our personal settings page that allows our signature to show when we post from a cell phone?

 

I too have a plug-in "Gold Super Chip" that fits in the PCM. It came with the truck from the original owner with 18.5k miles on it. I did not know it was there and purchased a Superchip programer and never could understand why I did not see any increase in performance with the expensive Superchip program. Well, the program would not override the chip.
I finally removed the "Gold" chip to see what difference in performance it made. Wow, the truck was a dog compared to what I had been used to. I am guessing the "Gold" chip adds approx. 30hp to the truck and that is fine with me.
So far I have not had any issues with a loose chip as I keep it taped snug in place to the PCM and keep the contacts lubed.

 

Well, it's been two days now.
Any news?
