I am a bit puzzled by your lack of ability to fabricate bed sides. I found a steel shop with a 10’ brake. He made the bedsides out of the proper gage steel, and put the top bend on it. He welded some pipe on the top for the roll.
He also made the pieces that were welded on the sides of the bed.
well under $500 for everything.

There are two used T-87's for sale on e-Bay right now. Both are over $1,000 with shipping.
There is also a rebuilt T-98 on there for $2,500. Wow, the prices have gone up quite a bit.
Have to say I prefer the T-87 a little over the T-98 when it comes to around-town use. I've had both on my trucks and were way better than the stock T-9's. The T-87 requires zero modifications, the T-98 requires shortening the driveshaft and modifying the transmission cross member or the tunnel cover.
I gave away a fully functional, low wear and clean T-9 last year after trying to sell it for several years. I dragged that thing to swap meets and advertised it and got zero interest until I listed it for free to make room in my garage. Even then it took 3 months for someone to bite. You may want to look for a T-87 local to you. I've never confirmed it, but have been told on here more than once that the old 'Ditch-Witches' used the synchronized Ford transmissions and might be a source to find something for your truck.
Keep up the post updates, can't wait to see your truck as it gets finished.

As for there being a million of them, that might have been the case but since the 60's they have been scrapped with worn-out trucks so each year they become harder to find. I began looking for a T-87 or T-98 about 6 years ago for the F3 - and it was a challenge back then. The prices were 1/4 of what they are now it seems.
Fewer people are willing to separate one from a derelict truck and offer it up for sale. They are tough to ship so only a handful of people are making it known they have one to sell. Going to a junkyard or a corner of a farmer's field and lifting one out is the most likely way to obtain one.
I'm surprised there isn't more chatter on here about doing a T-5 conversion. Does anyone here have some info on that as a possibility?
