2004 Eddie Bauer 6.0L woes
Just registered for the site. Hope you folks can help.
Been waiting for the day my wife would call me from the side of the road with a blown head gasket on her rig. It happened yesterday.
Also getting low voltage at injectors.
Dealer quote starts at $5500. Seems like a lot of money to throw at an 04 with 135000 miles.
Any suggestions?

I would go to an independent shop that knows the 6.0L. Don't put it back together unless you delete the EGR nightmare. The EGR caused most of the overheating problems with the 6.0L from what I hear. The industrial version that does not have this EGR does not seem to have reliability problems like the Ford version. So new head gasket and an EGR delete should get you going. I would think you could get a complete rebuilt engine for $5.

Do a little seaching and decide what you want to do with the repair. There are options to upgrade your oil cooler, upgrade or delete the EGR and most recommend using ELC NOT the Ford Gold coolant.
Most likely the Ford Gold clogged your oil cooler, caused your EGR cooler to overheat and rupture coolant into the engine..and that may have caused your head gasket(s) to go. The simplest fix is to just replace it all with stock components and put in the ELC. In theory that will keep your oil cooler flowing for a long time. A monitor for the oil temp and coolant temp will tell you if the oil cooler is ever getting clogged again. Then you can service before the head gaskets blow. If you check out the 6.0L forum there is tons of info. When fixed correctly you'll have a rock solid Ex.
