How difficult are they to take out. For long day trips it is sweet. But day to day we like to day our 3 dogs with us and that takes up their space. I like it to Shun the mother in law

Quoted from the web site linked above:
The fourth row seating for an Excursion SUV is completely portable, it can be removed in just a few minutes when the full cargo space is needed.
I have seen these over the years for the Ex and have always wondered whether the company that sells them did any crash testing with them. I question how safe they are.
I get that the seats themselves have been tested but what about as installed in the vehicles? That rear facing seat for the Ex is only about a foot or so from the rear doors. In a rear end collision I wouldn't want to be sitting there....
I asked them about the whole "passengers aren't supposed to be in crumple zones" deal you often see brought up regarding these seats, got no response. Would have loved one in my grand cherokee but just couldn't pull the trigger.

Thats why the passangers are facing backwards.. Its an collision early detection system that alerts the driver to an immediate danger and to take corrective action. It sounds like this

Nice, I definitely want one. But no worry about having the mother-in-law try and tag along, unless I'm gonna bolt a leather sectional onto a 12,000lb trailer. There'd just be no room.
