Dayton police "mistook" a mentally handicapped teen-ager's speech impediment for "disrespect"

did any of the bystanders talk to the reporters?
the story is one-sided, and it is told by the mother that is suing the police.
it has no mention of anyone other than the mother talking to anyone.
now. did the neighbors and bystanders really talk to the police, or is the mother just saying it to make the police look bad?
like i said, i will not pass judgment on a one-sided story.
this is just like an incident that happened here a bout 6 years ago.
a woman claimed a man molested her handicapped son, 25 years earlier.
he was arrested, and his life was ruined because he was labeled a child molester.
the mother was looking for money. the man was innocent, and after the investigation was done, it was determined he was not even in the country when the incidents supposedly took place.
but to this day, he is still labeled as a child molester, and can not even find work as a burger flipper, because teenagers work in burger joints and he was arrested for child molestation. the fact that he was cleared of all charges means nothing, it was in the media and everyone just knows he did it because they read it in the paper.

Quite frankly it doesn't matter who talked to the reporters. What matters is who testifies in court. You can bet on one thing, the city will pay. Not sure the cops will get punished though. They always seem to get away with things like this.

I'm thinking house-breaking, illegal entry, abuse of authority, conduct unbecoming of an official, failure to establish probable cause, gross negligence, use of excessive force, assault on a minor child, ignorance of essential detail at the scene of the incident, and if you look at it from a departmental point of view - these guys have given not only their supervisor a black eye, but also their department, division, profession, city and STATE!
And people read about this stuff all over the world once it goes online (I bet the bobbies in London are laughing their collective pink pahookies off over this latest American ****-up!!!)
So there is a long line of people in Dayton that wish that they had never even heard of those two cops right now...
To top it all off - they couldn't even catch a little kid to begin with!
The Kid made it to HOME BASE, so those chuckle heads are still "IT"
I can't help trying to visualise all of this from the kids eye view...
He's out playing, riding his bike. A policeman stops him and wants to talk to him, which is okay because his Mom always told him if he got lost or in trouble and Mom wasn't around - to go see a policeman...
OH BOY! What's happened to THAT notion for good and all, at least in HIS mind!
"The policemans were acting like adults are not supposed to..."
"Mom was there, but could not stop them..."
I think those two memories are stamped in pretty deep, wouldn't they be?
"I didn't do anything wrong..."
~That last one is going to be the butt-kicker right there.
I think a lot of cash is about to be forked over to somebody.

You're right. It's all a fabrication based on unsubstantiated facts. The whole thing probably never even happened.

all i am saying is that that article is one sided as told by the mother who is suing the town and police dept.
did anyone corroborate her statements??
from what i read, no.
why? because the way the article is written sells papers.
all i was saying is that you can not believe everything you read in the paper, or on the Internet.

Yep, good point on that one sided story being used to just sell papers.
Out of all those witnesses, no one had a cell phone vid of the incident? Nothing about this went to the national news? hmmm....smells fishy to me.
Another side to the story; maybe the 'mentally challenged 17yr old" has turrets? Mabye his spouting of obscenities was mistooken by the officers as direct derogatory remarks?...i'm just saying.... who knows?....we'll never see the real story on stuff like this....unless vids of the whole transpired events are posted online and become viral......

Now HERE is a second angle to it (I'm glad it was said - so now lets explore it too)
Officer "X" and partner "Y" observe (what) and decide to make a stop.
(Individual) does/is observed to be (what?)
~ at this point I hand over the ball
(if we do this carefully and without prejudice we can construct an officer eye view of the scene)
*There are far more expert people in the field of law enforcement here than I could ever wish to be; I'd like to see an honest evaluation.
If we have any professional Blue Knights here - I honestly welcome what you can tell us. And I will also go on point and say this:
Policemen and Policewomen are not who or what most people think they are.
They are PEOPLE who have a PROFESSION.
* Although, like the Military: that profession makes demands on personal conduct that a civilian may or may not be constrained to.
* IE: 24HR call...

Now THAT is poor police work!
