Depends on the year of the vehicle. Today, it doesn't make a whit of difference in CA, cuz CA only smog tests 1976 and newer, but...

Beginning in 1961, the PCV system was mandatory in all sold new in CA ( where else!) gasser vehicles. So, all I-6 & V8 Passenger Cars, Trucks and Econolines had it initially.

Was a must install when registering an oughtta state vehicle, that didn't come with it factory installed.

How many more cans a worms would you like to open inre to CA smog laws, past and now!?

AND,,,, if those laws don't chap your ***, its a $150 fine for leaving your hitch and ball in when not using it. State law. If your parked in a parking lot and not towing a trailer,,, you get a ticket. This law passed last year and it is slowly being inforced. They actually have stats on how many people have broken their legs on those things. I can't tell ya how many times I've banged into those damn things. :O) or should I say 'bangged into mine'. HAAAAA. ;l(

Yes it is. If I can find it, I think I still have a list of some new laws and existing laws that have been jacked way up here in California. Cell phone use while driving is I think $200. No set belts is I think also $200. Parking in a handycap zone with no plates or plac is $1,500 for the first time and double after that. Give me little time to see if I can find it. I was floored when I saw them.

In Illinois the trailer hitch removal is law too. Since mine was frozen in, I just unbolted my hitch from the truck.

The taller one is, the further it is to look down...so it's quite possible to bang your leg on a hitch.

Did'ja ever wonder why shoe stores have the smallest sizes on the top shelves, while the largest sizes are on the bottom shelves?

What person that is over 6' would wear small shoes? What Billy Barty sized person would wear large shoes? Bending over to look at shoes is a pain in the back...for some of us.

Masked rider, I have not heard anything about the hitch law so if you could find it just like to know how stupid Sacramento can be, a quick vehicle code check did not locate it. Fines are established locally, in my county handicap parking is only $288, cellphone was $132, so it depends on how greedy your local government is.

Do California judges have to be lawyers? I thought about being a judge because locally it was easier than becoming a lawyer. A lawyer had to go to school, learn, take tests, and the pass that bar exam. Judges only had to be voted in by their neighbors. They did eventually (recently) change it so only people with backgrounds in law could be a judge. They also made it so that felons could not be judges. In some areas that is still an odd job.

Sorry, just got home. I'm at the University 4 days a week. Long drive ;o(. Anyway, I will look around. I have stacks of papers all over the office and I'm pretty sure its in one,,, I hope. I usually print out things like that. I think it came out about the time the economy REALLY started looking bad and the future didn't look good. I kind of thought it was a way for the state to keep the $$$ flowing (coming in). Its supprising how many people have actually 'stopped' driving. Or at least cut WAY down. If I could car pool or take a bus or train, I would. Unless your in a big city that has a good transportation set up forget it.

That's what the fine was...prior to 1/1/2011 statewide.

Look it up, the fine increased dramatically throughout CA 1/1/2011. The LA Times published a list of all the fine increases that went into effect on this date.

For the first offense: $976.00. Double that for the second offense, triple that for the third offense and etc.

In-considerate peeps that park in handicap parking spaces w/o a placard or DP (Disabled Person aka handicap) plates are now gonna pay for it...big time...if they get caught.

I pay special attention to this jazz because I've had the same DP plates (DPV****) on my vehicles for many years. These are like personal plates, can be transfered to other vehicles.

Currently these plates are on my 2011 F150, and when installed on a truck, automatically become DP Commercial Plates.

Thats it. $976 first time. I just talked to a friend on mine and he said it was $900+ for first offence. For some reason I though it was $1,500 first time. Doesn't matter, I think its still TOO low. This is an offense that really chaps my ***. That and the perfectly healthy lazy bumbs that can't walk 20 feet to put a shopping cart back where it belongs - leaving it right in the middle of a parking space. DAAAAAAA....... OK, I'm finished.
