There's a clip you can put on as another safety measure to keep it from being opened accidentally.

Ok well that makes me feel a little better about the situation! I like the idea but when trying to turn my truck in the woods(nearly impossible), i would hate to be stranded without oil.

I even have a picture for you, with the valve dangling off the bottom of the pan it would be below the front axle on my 7.3.

You're right, that is rather exposed on your 2WD. Much more so than a 4x4. I tend to forget those exist. Why would you be offroad in that? Anyway, point well taken on the 2 wheelers.

I also didn't even consider a 2wd when thinking about the offroading problem

You guys are a riot!

Clearance only goes so far on any vehicle. Running over the edge of one good size stick sending the other end n the direction of the pan is enough to knock that brass fitting clean in half. Good size rock fired off the side of the tire would do the same.

All that stuff can happen in any drive vehicle even a front wheel drive car can do what I described.

On one of our work trucks (4x4) the front tires went over a hump and dropped down on the other side allowing the rock on the top of the hump to make friends with the bottom of the oil pan and slightly dented the bottom in a bit.

Sure none of this will probably ever happen to any of you suit and tie guys that don't want to get your hands dirty. It is just random unfortunate incidents after all. Just keep your old oil plug in the glove box next to the CPS.

They also have the newest idiot doing oil changes, so you're taking chances. I'll change my own oil, I think I can spare 20 minutes, two times a year.

Where do you get the safety clips? I didn't see that on the Fumoto web site.

I tighten my drain plug holding the ratchet right at the hub as tight as I can. That way, I don't put that much torque on it to strip the threads, but tight enough to plug it.

I have been using this dealer for 7 years and they have a perfect record. Dosen't take a degree of years of experience to change oil. And they supply the oil filter, oil and check everything else. They screw up it's their butt and they will make it right. They also dispose of the oil. Best $9.95 I can spend.

It's just a truck not a family member....

I use an in-lbs torque wrench set about 10% below the specification, and it still feels like too much and makes me nervous. I have a tendency to strip things, so I use a torque wrench on everything and star far away from anything in aluminum.
