Don't worry, everything that starts in California ends up every where else later.

I wonder why?
Since the topic went past the diesels, we did have long discussion about ventless propane heaters that are often addition of choice for lot of RV owners.
Generally those heaters are banned from sale in CA like the mentioned lawn tractors with no spark arrestors and other safety equipment.
So the results is that every year in other states a number of people die because they operate danger heaters or equipment.
Is that what makes you guys happy?
Can't be the middle-east weather? Especially this freezing morning.

Born in this state, lived in many others.

CA has done alot for the environment and health of the people. But when they take a guys motor home away, thats a bit much imo.

I know the story about the port, it was the Oakland/Alameda port that story was about. It has put alot of pressure on the owner/operators. Bigger company's trucks are generally newer and up to date.

As for some of our rules, the spark arrester is for fire prevention, and yes if you lived here you would know why. I enjoy off roading, and yah more than one fire has been started by a bike without one.

Some of our rules are needed, and with more people moving here, it will just be worse.

In smog check 2 counties, 1998 and newer diesels must pass a visual inspection.

And at the end of the day, I would move now, this state has been going downhill for several years now.

Name one fire that has been PROVED to have been started by motorcycle exhaust. That is an easy out for the Fire Departments.
I am all for spark arresters and ride with one, but a bunch of us got together and tried to light dry grass and brush using a open, four-stroke motorcycle exhaust.
We tried the open end, high revs, holding to the header pipe, etc.
The most we got was a little smoke after a extended, high-rpm run.
Sorry to rant but I'm a 57 yr-old Southern California native tired of shooters and motorcyclists getting blamed for wildfires.

As for pollution controls; a lot of these new requirements cause more pollution than they solve. Somewhere that required new motor has to be manufactured with electricity produced mostly from coal and metals mined mostly with diesel heavy equipment into aluminum that takes massive amounts of electricity to manufacture.

Another dirty little secret is the massive amounts of pollution caused by mining for rare-earth minerals to make Hybrid batteries and motors.

(Past) Time for some common sense in pollution control.

The way the topic goes, we can beat the V10 Vs PS topic
I witnessed car fire developing on the freeway 3 days ago. All it took was 5 seconds from some smoke coming from under the engine to have whole car underbody covered with flames. Try to duplicate it on your driveway and you will fail.
I agree that government controlling anything will fail miserably. They did fail selling booze and running prostitution in Mustang Ranch, didn't they?
I got tired of making s***y mileage on CA stuff sold at gas pumps and converted to diesels only. Now I noticed that I make much better mpg on Nevada diesel, than I do on the stuff sold in California.
But bottom line is that we live healthier lives in CA.
For the member thinking about moving out of Pleasanton -how many other places in this country will offer you 7 digits salaries? My stepbrother left his $120k job in CA and married to Baltimore. He was able to find $100k job 3 years ago. But for last 2 he draws unemployment.

A "no trailer" law will be on the way soon no doubt

With all the used tires here and recycling being such a big deal, we should all bolt used tires all the way around our vehicles (your trailer too, Joe F350) like an old tugboat.
No more fires, less collision damage, less landfill, its a win-win!

You may make 7 digits if your lucky but hell it's expensive as heck out there. I own a 1200 sq fr house for 100k in Cali that would be ~2x in cost for a place in worse shape. So overall **** happens everywhere and we just gotta roll with it or die of ulcers.

I travel a lot and compare prices.
Not too many places in US offers cook to order lunches for $4 like Chinese in CA do, our Texan friends got pretty upset when they learned that Texan steaks in CA sell for $3.90 while they pay double that in Texas.
How many places in US offers oranges for 15 cents a pound?
I know first hand the housing is pretty expensive, but the house I bought 20 years ago for 200k is worth well over a million in those bad years today. There is no way I could save that kind of money.

I'm pretty sure this is correct, at least it seems to be from everything I've read this past year regarding smog laws and our diesels.

There was even a state prop about this (or something similar) that didn't pass, this past November, regarding pushing the date back.

I don't remember exactly what it was because when I first started to study the proposition to decide how I was gonna vote, once I realized it meant less government intrusion, I stopped reading because I knew exactly how I was gonna vote.

How can California tell you the engine you have been running for years legally will be banned? I think they are overstepping their bounds here.

Maybe it's time for one of the big three to build a diesel truck that is specifically designed to NOT be sold in California. Wouldn't that be a kick!
