Dash lights

Hi;I’m a first time poster here and looking for help. It seems like such a straight forward thing to replace the dash lights in my ’78 F150 but I’ve hit a snag. I’m wondering if I’m perhaps missing a tool or trick that will help me replace a directional light. Of all of my dash lights the only one that works is my left directional. So I started this project by somehow reaching up and getting the right directional light out, then came the problem of getting it back in. That part isn’t working for me, so I need a tip if there is a trick to this or am I just not doing it right? Thanks for any help,Peg

Its prolly easiest to just pull the dash cluster off, its only held on by a few bolts/screws. That'd make getting to the others easier and you can see where things go, then do the blind method down the road after you have a good mental picture.

Keep in mind that these dash clusters are made out of some sort of composite material that dries up and becomes very brittle over the years. As such, it's possible that you can't get the bulb carriage to go back in because simply removing it the first time damaged the mounting flange. This happened to me with my high-beam indicator. I spent forever trying to get the bulb back in, only to find that the reason it wouldn't go in was because the cluster had broken away in that area. In fact, any cluster of this era that I've tried to pull from a junkyard in Texas has crumbled in my hands. Food for thought.
