If the vehicle has all its original smog equipment and the emissions sticker under the hood states that it meets CA requirements and it passes the CA smog test, then yes. Otherwise, no.

You may think they are all the same, but they are not, Ford made CA legal models, and 49 State models. The smog equipment is similar, but different.

You confuse me. Are you talking about a Ford 250 or a Ford Ranger? If its an F-250, you need to go to another section in FTE.

If the truck is from the state of Oregon, then what KhanT said.

If from the planet Organ, and it has its interstellar sticker, then you should be just fine in California

It can still be registered here in california even with the underhood emission label states it meets "federal emission standards." the emission facility will test it to the standards of the vehicle, so if your label states E.G.R., A.I.R.,T.A.C., E.V.A.P.... and so on you will need all of the original federal emission components. I worked at the emission referee for 5 years here in los Angeles, so if you have any questiosn feel free to ask!

I thought Cali required ALL out of state vehicles to brought up to compliance with Cal emissions?
A friend brought a motorhome in from out of state and Cali made it so painful $$$ wise she gave up and gave it to me!

No, the vehicle is only required to have what the manufacturer installed on it assuming it is not a grey market vehicle... i.e. imported from outside of the united states. what part of cali are you moving to?

How long ago did you work for CA? Because as of Jan 1st 2009, a lot of new laws came into effect, and I have run into several people who were moving to CA and had to leave their old car behind because they couldn't license it in CA.

I know for a fact they havent made it illegal to register federal vehicles in California. and they cant require you to make them comply to california spec's if they maintain their underhood emission label stating its federal... the Emission laws in california are very clear, "Underhood Label takes precedence over any Book or Manual for emission components." The only way a federal vehicle will be refused is if its less than a year old, federal emissions, and also has less then 5000 miles i believe... in which case it gets issued a certificate of non compliance
