Don't unplug it, it changes the way the fan works. I have a early 05 w/ deleted cooler and valve in place and plugged in. No codes or problems for 60k

This is good info here---^^^^. Wether it throws a CEL or not depends on the flash version in the truck. 06 and up will throw a code for low EGR flow. An 04 may not but if you get it reflashed at the dealer, it will.

Here's some info on unplugging the EGR and how it affects the fan.

Leave the EGR plugged in even if you have the cooler deleted. The fan will function properly and the valve will at least move correctly. Mine has been welded shut for about 120K miles but I'm on a different schedule--LOL.

CEL is all about the flash.

Raptor, maybe a dumb question on an old post. If EGR delete is done and the valve is still in place and plugged in does it need to be cleaned periodically ?

I'm going out on a limb here but I would say that.....if the EGR is deleted then the EGR valve would no longer be subjected to the exhaust soot build up so it would no longer need to be cleaned once it's removed, cleaned and reinstalled after the delete. But that is just a guess.

I know this is an old thread. However, it has come to my attention recently (from doing a lot of research) that the EGR valve not only effects the fan operation on these trucks, it also effects VGT vain operation. Vains may not open all the way, or might stay open for longer than expected.

This, plus if you get a new turbocharger with new solenoid, the turbo needs to go through a learning cycle when its first ran after install.

So you'll need the EGR valve plugged in for this learning process, even if you have a delete.

See video section at timestamp 6:02 to 7:42
