v10 programmer?

lookin for helpful information on if it would be good to install a programmer on my v10 f250 4x4. was wondering if i would see an increase in power and help with the shifting in the transmission. this is the first v10 that if owned and the only thing that i've done is put a flowmaster muffler on the exhaust.

Welcome to FTE!

A programmer will generally do exactly what you stated above, it is just the HOW MUCH that is left as the question. For the V-10 you will want to look up 5 star tuning. Most on here use the sct with the custom tunes that he writes for the different octane ratings. He is also a sponsor here on fte, so you will get a decent price on one, and his customer service is tops. You should also as a bonus see a slight mpg increase after tuning, if you can bear to keep the go pedal from bottoming out. I don't see what year you have, but also take a look at the y-pipe that is stock on the truck. He has an upgrade y-pipe also avail as a package. You will enjoy the difference one makes.

the truck is a 1999 with the stock y-pipe. i have been warned not to open up the exhaust too much or it would start loosing its low-end power. is the edge or bullydog units any good?

No. Not unless you want one to keep papers from blowing off your desk at work.

I learned the hard way, stay away from the over the counter programmers! Go to Mike at 5 star. I changed the y pipe in my5.4L made a big difference.

I personally found that the Bully-Dog, Super-Chips and Jet-Chip have little to absolutely no effect on the performance of the V-10...In fact the Bully Dog actually removed more than supposed to when removing the download and therefore caused me to have to replace the PCM and rendering the Bully Dog useless unless as stated above for a paper-weight...I do not know if mine has been an isolated incident and understand things happen but this is just my experience...BTW new PCM's are $1300.00 + the flash + tax...Please keep in mind this is only my experience and opinion and I have had it offered to me to have my B/D programmer reflashed at no cost to me I just haven't taken them up on it yet....

How will this work in a 2009 F250 v10?
Will it adjust for bigger tires, work with CAI and aftermarket Cat-back exhaust or just muffler such as Flowmaster or Cherrybomb?
Thanks

Seriously, just call Mike. Number is above. It is rare that I can make such a sincere recommendation to anyone. He knows more about making these babies sing than the rest of us combined....

hi greg
give us a call anytime to talk over your needs. the X3 device with the biggest thing to correct in any 2v v10 and yours is the horrible fuel strategies from the factory. I can explain more about over phone easier. i also do like the ypipe.

Its hard to put into words on an internet forum how much better Mike's tune makes the V10.
I have a 2004 that I was blissfully happy with (I thought).
I just did Mikes 5 Star Tuner and a Y pipe package and its hard to believe I am driving the same truck.
My truck is FAST now (se sig for config).
Yes my truck is lighter than alot of the ones you see on here, but its pretty darn spunky for an 8000 lb truck.
It never ran like it does now, even when brand new (I bought it new).

Cant say enough good things about Mike's tunes, or his customer service.
Look no further. Get the 5 Star and enjoy.
