IH industrial 6.9
Okay so as the title states this is an industrial version of the 6.9. The engine is part of a stand alone power unit and drives a small rock crusher. The issue is repairing this thing, I can't get the parts anywhere not even from International. The guy at international was able to give me the specs which are 130 HP and 240 FT pounds but he said they were limited production and were exclusive to the government and no other information was available. The issue is starting it sometimes no here is where it gets real interesting, there is no glow plugs in the engine they are plugged with allen head pins that are screwed in the holes as it has a very large grid heater on the unit which states "3000 WATT 230 VOLTS 3 PHASE made by TEMRO" that unit is burned out and not working but I can not find one like it. The next issue is the starter its a very large air starter but is worn out from cranking this engine (it takes 3 full mins to get this beast to start without the heater) its made by Powr Quik. Has anyone ever seen anything like this? We just need to get it slightly more reliable as this unit is going to be scrapped by the spring anyways due to the state laws its to old and must be replaced with a newer unit that includes exhaust filtration. I also can't take pictures of the unit as cameras are prohibited from this jobsite. Ant help on where to find some parts would be great.

Just wondering what may be a dumb question, but if you have 3phase available, why not switch it to an electric motor? Wouldn't that be a whole lot cheaper in the long run?
Oh, and an electrician that's worth calling himself that can tap into a leg to give you 120 VAC, which could then be used for a block heater, and also for a 12V supply to charge a battery for glow plugs if you wanted......

thats once crazy intake heater man. that thing should be able to take that intake air temp to 300 degrees lol. im x7 with these guys. throw a set of glow plugs on there with a solenoid and a 12v battery. you dont even need an alternator, just a cheap $20 solar battery charger. you are only using it for 10 seconds a day, the battery will stay charged with that little thing.

Okay worked on this some more tonight and I am going to shot the thing. The holes for the glow plugs are not standard size I found out they are 5/16'' and it was also mentioned to me tonight this engine at one time was dual fuel and the propane was injected through those plugged holes. So now I am very much back to square one, I found a place to rebuild the air starter and it will be back next week to the tune of 1400.00 which is a rip off but its not my money. I am just going to hope and pray that the rebuilt starter turns it over fast enough to start it without the heater. The engine stops and starts over a hundred times a day. It will be replaced in the next few months with a propane powered Ford V10 power unit. With the new laws in ca I am pulling these old diesels left and right so many of these old IDI engines on farms and job sites and all must go or you face hefty fines. We are scraping miost of our old equipment pre 1990 and replacing it with new stuff or repowering it.

Not sure its up to the plant owner but most likely it will be placed in their scrap bin. I have lots more of these up and coming and a few big units down by you up at Shaver lake that must go and two of them are back up units with very low hours.
Well guys thank you for the help but the decision was made tonight to not mess with it and not install a brand new power unit. This thing needs to be back up by next week so in the end and the fact the bean counters did not like the cost of the starter rebuild. So we have a brand new 6.8 V10 unit coming from Ford that is already mounted on a frame and is turn key should be interesting to see how well this engine does in this environment.
