Is This 2004 Ford F-350 A Good Buy?

It has been well cared for and could pass for 100,000 miles but has 318,000 miles. Its a 4x4,Automatic,6.0,good tires, gooseneck ready. Its priced at $9800 and $9500 would probably buy it.They were closed when I looked at it.

If it has no issues, $9800 is a great buy. With that many miles though, it may need some work in the future.

That is really a good price. Someone did some serious hauling with that truck. That is roughly 53,000 miles a year. I would guess that they are mostly highway miles, while hauling something. I would look it over, see if you can get any maintenance records, oasis report, carfax report, and whatever else. Just keep in mind that with that many miles you could run into some good size repair bills. Some people or companies take good care of their vehicles that are used for hauling, and others do minimal maintenance just to get by. Look it over real good or maybe take it somewhere to get inspected. Good luck.

That's a lot of miles for a 6 leaker so it must have been one of the few good ones. I'd still do a service check on the VIN to see what all has been done to it. You also have to figure that the tranny is shot or about to be shot and that's another $4,000 to fix it right. If the engine needs a rebuild plus the tranny then you could be looking at up to $15,000 for both an engine and tranny. Also to be included are the front end rebuilds, maybe brakes, drive train......you get the picture.

At 318 k, I would bet that the tranny has been r&r'd already, and most of the expensive engine work has been done (if not have had a new engine installed at some point).

Definitely get the oasis, as it will tell you what happened in the first 100k at least. I would ask to talk to the previous owner if known, and get a THOROUGH inspection at a qualified diesel repair shop.

Pappy19 is right, you could be in for major repairs if not already done. Stop into the 6.0L forum and ask them what to look for on the OASIS and things to check/look for when inspecting the engine compartment. IF there is a tuner in it, I would run away. 6.0L did not like tuners, and usually don't last to 318K with one installed.

I wouldn't touch it. You'll more than likely be pouring money in it soon for one reason or another.
