Is the rear defrost option available with rear slider or solid only?

When I bought my truck there was no rear defrost option but it is available now as I understand. Just wondering if the rear defrost equipped trucks have solid rear windows or is it also available on sliders?

If they are sliders, would someone mind posting some pics of the setup - I am particluarly interested in knowing if the rear defroster is across all three panels and if Ford used parralleled bus bars or some other configuration to achieve - the bus bars traditionally are vertical strips on the sides of the windows that the wire window traces originate and terminate in.

I'd like to try and come up with a rear defrost setup for my slider but there is nothing on the aftermarket suitable I could find so I need to engineer it myself.

Thanks in advance.

I have it ordered on my truck with a sliding rear window. Will be curious to see how they did that.

Their calling it a "Power Heated Backlight/Rear Window Defrost" so maybe there using some kind of light (that generates heat) to defrost it. Will be interesting to see.

+1 - I have the rear defroster and the power rear window as well.

Subscribing in case others post up before my truck arrives.

Hhhhmm, now I am really curious. Maybe they put a 1000 Watt Halogen spotlight in the back LOL!

But it is interesting they describe the rear defrost with a heated rear light as some sort of combination - I wonder if this rear light is outside or inside.

this might help some.

REAR WINDOW DEFROSTER (IF EQUIPPED) R
The rear defroster control is located on the climate control panel and
works to defrost your rear window from fog and thin ice. If equipped, it
also operates the heated mirror to remove snow and thin ice from the
side mirrors.
Ensure that the ignition on. Press to turn the defroster on/off. The
indicator light will illuminate when activated. For vehicles with a sliding
rear window– the defroster will be disabled when the window is opened.
Do not use razor blades or other sharp objects to clean the inside
of the rear window or to remove decals from the inside of the
rear window. This may cause damage to the heated grid lines and
will not be covered by your warranty.

Now I really gotta see one. I figured they powered it through the window track, but since it won't be active if the window is open, it almost sounds like it is powered differently. It sounds like they have built in a logic that turns it off if it detects the window is open -- but then how do they do that!

I would think that it is powered thru fixed contact points (less chance of failure) which are probably located on the edge of the glass and only makes contact when closed.

The first of these should be rolling off of the line... hopefully someone has one and can solve the mystery.

shouldn't we be able to just order the part and install it? I'm sure there will be a wiring harness involved too, but at least some of us already have the mirror defrosters so I'd think we could just tap into that control. Hopefully they made the old wiring harnesses with a provision for adding a rear defroster.

Yes, but we don't have any of the heating elements in the glass. Unless something has changed on how they are heated.

well that's what I meant... order the glass with heating elements to replace what we have.

At some point the back window with the elements should be available. Someone will eventually put something through it, like a nice twelve foot 2"x10".
