Injector o rings preventative maintenance

I was thinking of replacing my injector o rings as a pm measure. I have about 180k on my stock injectors and I don't think any work has been done on them. Would this be a good idea or a waste of time and cash? Only performance issue I have noticed was last winter upon cold start I would get a slight miss and then clear up after warming up a little. What to you guys/gals think?

I would vote no. Now, if you were changing GP's or were under VC's for some other reason and had $$ for o-rings - ya might as well 'while you're there'.

I waited until 240k on my F350 and 'upgraded' to single-shots as PM! I work out of town and just didn't want to break down 3000mi from home and be forced to pay some jackleg to wrench on my baby. A few years and a few injector changes later and now I'm not afraid to change injectors in the walmart parking lot if I had to!!! I'm gonna drive the X until I can afford big oil, Stage 3's, head studs and at least a 38R (I dream of a pro-charger...)

Grant, I was thinking of doing close to the same thing, I was thinking rebuilt or new injectors. (Im' at 240k)
Jason and I had a long conversation about this at the GTG.
He rode in my truck, listened to my engine and gave me his advice.
I have since decided against the new injectors.
Listen to Jason, he's a book of knowledge.

So I guess injector O rings is not a common failure? I'm trying to keep my pms under control but it's hard sometimes hanging out on this site. Maybe I'll just wait a while. Thanks

I was going to just do o rings but injectors would be nice. I probably don't need them now but if I keep the truck long enough I'm sure I'll need to do some work and would rather do it at my convenience. Yes, Jason must be a smart guy he went with a BTS. I shouldn't give you a hard time, if my transmission went out now I'd be in the same boat as you. Thanks for the input.

Glad to hear you got things figured out. Thanks for the advice.

With us being on the forums and seeing different failures often from time to time you can't help to think about doing some PM work before ours go Grant, you almost think our motor is one big O-RING waiting to burst. IMO you should be OK for now, I got almost 153,000 on mine and really never think about it because my truck never skips a beat(knock on wood).

It's worth making sure your injectors and rockers are torqued down properly, but I wouldn't waste my time with injector o-rings unless you know you have an issue. Besides, there's no guarantee the new o-rings wouldn't fail sooner.

I'm starting to think the same. If it is not broke don't fix it. Just thought it might be a pm measure. I did the torque down on those on the second time I pulled my valve cover.

Good point Chris.
Grant, I just recalled when I sheared off the injector hold down bolt in the head, and I had to pull the injector to retrieve said bolt, My injector orings looked real good for 230+k on them.
I put a new set on that one injector of course, but the old ones that I cut off were plenty pliable.
