Turbo noise?

I recently purchased an 08 Super Duty. I've noticed a noise which to me sounds like it's coming from the turbo. It occurs when it's winding down but recently, it was happening at 100 psi and was much louder. I took it to the dealer and of course, the noise was not as loud. They said there wasn't any unusual noises.

The noise I'm hearing is a grinding noise at first but on it's loudest, it sounded like the impeller in the turbo grinding against the housing.

Before I give the dealer a piece of my mind, is this a known problem? Could I be mistaken that it's not the turbo?

Thanks in advance,

Mike Pop

Could be a leak in the up-pipes, that's fairly common. Also, these don't get to 100 psi, about 40 psi max, you probably meant 10 psi.

I have the same noise. Took it to the dealer, they listen, heard, called and said that it is noted with mileage and to bring it back if it got louder. Well 23,000 miles later, it is the same, no louder, no quieter. Did a 5er pull to Colorado this summer and never had a problem. It sounds like a grinding as it winds down. Well thats my experience...

mine has always been quite. This is not a wide spread problem. Each mark on the boost guage is 10 psi. Max psi for the motor is 41 psi.

Ok...so I added a zero to the boost pressure. That's not the issue. The issue is a grinding noise. It's definitely there and shouldn't be. I just want to be prepared when the dealer test drives the truck again and doesn't find anything.

Additionally, would condensation or water getting into the air intake create such a noise?

wish i could help, but you're the first person I've heard of with that issue. Mine is very quiet, almost never hear turbos with windows up.

yeah this is not a normal noise on the 6.4. 43K on my truck and they are quite, even when it is cold outside.

I have the same thing.

I have an 08 F350 and when I lift it sounds like an auger grinding. I to am wondering if I should bring it it to have it looked at. I previously have had the EGR valve go out. The EGR vavle was covered under the emissions warranty which goes up to 80000 miles.

Did you find out any more on this?

Thanks
Shawn

ask the dealer personal if they will go for a quick road test with you. if it does it then you may have more luck.

I took your advise and brought the truck in. The dealer said that noise wasn't normal. They had the truck for two days and checked all the turbo specs and everything checked out. They then started a case with Ford. Ford at one point was replacing the air box as that was supposed to fix the problem. Ford has stopped replacing the air box as it didn't fix the problem. Ford's resolution is pending. The dealer said that there was moisture in the EGR tube which they removed and said that will help with some of the noise. I am supposed to keep the dealer posted as if the noise gets as loud as before.

Mine started doing this, and I first noticed it when turning the truck off.

Every time i turn it off it sounds like somethings grinding to a halt under the hood.

Also does it letting off the turbo fast.

Turbo Agaiun??!!

POTENTIALLY ANOTHER EXPENSIVE REPAIR, brought to you by your friends at the ford motor co.

I dropped my 6.0l, (Which I paid 4 times over) and just picked up BEAUTIFUL 2008 F350 King Ranch. Only 78,000 miles. 7 days later im hearing the same noise. Did anyone have any resolution?

Im starting to feel that im in another bad relationship that ill end up staying in far to long.

Wish you would have found us with when you had the 6.0.

Exactly, what is the 6.4 doing?

Is the truck all stock?
