Mercon SP or Mercon LV

Currently the truck has Mercon SP. I only want to drain/fill the 8qt.

Should I search for
Mercon SP
or
should I just mix Mercon LV?

You can mix them without any problems.

Slight hijack. I just bought a used 2006 motorhome and am afraid of what fluid they used in the tranny. They changed it before I bought it, it was then driven from FL to TN. If they used generic tranny fluid, how much harm can be done? Thanks.

you don't even state what transmission ? must be the same
if it was speced to have SP or LV and they did not use it or valvoline has a substitute also .. I would be a little nervous ,, ask them what they used at the very least .. otherwise pay 210.00 for a hot flush

5R110W. Even if I asked what fluid they used, I'm not sure I could believe it, so I am assuming the wrong stuff. Went to the local Ford place and asked them if they could flush, they said no because it is a motorhome. I bought them out of fluid and a filter (line). I will change pan juice and in-line filter, run a while, and change again. I would prefer a Ford flush instead but......

Here's DIY tranny flush procedures by Mark Kovalsky:

Changing ATF Fluid in a E4OD and 4R100 transmission .: Articles

It's for different transmissions, but I believe it'd work for yours too. Maybe somebody can confirm???

Good luck!

I flushed my old E4OD using Mark's procedure and have read that it won't work with this tranny because of the thermo bypass. I was going to change it out one pan at a time.

I can confirm that it will not work on the TorqShift (5R110) transmission.

Back on topic.

If I had a choice of either.

should I stay with SP until supply diminish (because perhap SP is better)
or
should I make the switch to LV (becuase perhap LV is better)

New is better. Even my Powerstroke was design to run on dino oils, I use synthetics on it.
So going for newer stuff would be logic conclusion.
Than occasionally manufacturers do "OOPS" on new stuff....
Good luck with your decision.

Per my experience oil quality plays little role in the machinery life. Even if you fill it up with cooking oil, it will run for pretty long time. Not that I would try...

Can you be more specific. What aftermarket stuff have you used? Any of that stuff full synthetic? Also on which tranny? For how long? How many miles?

Which tranny? For how long? How many miles? Any improvement worth mentioning?

What is currently in your truck's tranny?
