Are the tailgates all the same for 80-86? I know different years use straps or cables for support, but are the tailgates themselves identical?
Yes, but I would suggest having them put their hands on it and possibly putting a deposit on it to hold it for when you get there.

I don't know what the differences are (I think it's related to the existence of holes & such for the mounting hardware) but they have different part numbers in the catalog:

E0TZ-9940700-A - Fits 80/82 F100/350 Styleside

E5TZ-9940700-B - Fits 83/86 F100/350 Styleside

Which brake line is it? I suppose it really doesnt matter all of the are a PIA to get loose. The rear is the easiest, both fronts are a nightmare. That stupid clip will make you say curse words.

Installed rear axle seals, bearings, and keepers. Installed said axles as well as new rear brakes. Tomorrow I may be driving!

Excellent!

I am very interested to see if the diff overhaul produces any gear noise.

I was kinda wondering about that. What would you recommend, Jim? I plan to take it to see Dad on either Thursday or Friday, probably Friday, so I'll need to do some driving 'twixt now and then to break it in - whatever that is.

I'm sure your setup is good unlike mine.
drive it, put some pressure on it.
I did 5 miles, let it cool. 15 miles, let it cool, 50 miles let it cool. change the hypoid at 500.

Perhaps I'm too cautious, maybe I don't know what I'm doing...

The main thing I have heard is not to tow with it until it hits about 500 miles. The R&P is used and is a matched set. However, it would be impossible for it to find the same exact position it was in while inside the donor carrier. I think it will take a few miles in order for it to match back up. The new bearings will get the "new" knocked off of them in short order. So I would say 500 miles. You can swap the fluid if you want to , but , with the new magnet plug I would let it ride for a little while. The friction modifier and the gear oil is somewhat costly. So I would want to get a little bit of my moneys worth out of it.

Given that, I think I'll take it around the neighborhood, which is maybe a mile, then stop and see if anything is hot. If not, go for a 5 or 10 mile jaunt and check again. If I can get 100 miles on it before heading up to see Dad, which is now set for Friday, I'll feel good about it.

And, as I think about it, I have one more thing to do tomorrow - take the ZF5 out of the bed of the truck. I'll back into the shop and use the shop crane to do that. Boy, do I need to clean the shop as everything is getting piled up, and now there'll be a tranny and t-case. Wonder if it'll fit through the hatch into the attic or if I'll have to pull the t-case.

Sorry Gary, I forgot these weren't new gears.

Don't worry too much about heat then, as they've already been lapped in.

I'm not gonna lie, I miss my truck. Had to park it at the armory back home in brunswick at work while I'm here in macon, ga stuck driving a stupid dodge charger. This saturday I get to be re-united with ol' Veronica and I'm gonna give her a bath.

*Bonus Points if you can see the Dodge emblem and other misc items on the dash in my mugshot post
