TRUCK YOU! A Red 1954 Ford F-100 Panel Truck
Capt’n Phillips (A.K.A. “Larry”) has been a member of FTE 2013 and is also the owner of a motorcycle shop in Washington. In a wonderful turn of events Larry ended up trading one of his motorcycles for a 1954 Ford F-100 Panel truck, and it was definitely a worthy trade.
Today we’ll step inside Larry’s garage and take a look at the amazing Ford that makes its home between those walls!
Before we continue on, there are a few things we should mention that are definitely not the best points of the truck. First of all, the rig is powered by a 5.4L Chevy V8.
Secondly, the torsion bar suspension was taken from a Plymouth Volare that was found lying around in a junkyard. These are definitely not the best points of the Ford, but Larry intends to fix both of these problems and bring the rig back to its true roots, and for that we must thank him!
Beyond the rather out-of-place updates, this F-100 is pretty much stock. In addition to the V8 power, the rig also has a turbo 400 transmission and shift kit that deliver power to the 9″ rear end. We’re sure that Larry can bring this rig back to all Ford parts, and we’d definitely want to see him do it!
Despite the Chevy motor and the Plymouth suspension, it is good to see this F-100 Panel cruising down the road, even sixty years later.
It was a rare and unique find that is worth the time and effort to bring back to its former glory. Go drop by Larry’s garage and leave some comments, browse the photography, and have a good time! Be sure to keep your garage up to date and maybe you’ll be featured next week!
