Old 1971 F-100 Pickup Proves Old Trucks Are Perfect Burnout Machines
Rocking a 5-speed swap and some mild engine upgrades, this F-100 is a smoke spewing, flame-spitting riot.
At Ford Truck Enthusiasts, we love all the new stuff that Ford is making lately. But truth be told, we have a soft spot for Ford trucks of the past. When we found Craig LoPresti’s F-100, we had to share it. His build, while relatively tame, is extremely cool. Numerous videos are on his YouTube channel, thecraig909, and images of his truck are on his Instagram page of the same name.
Over time this F-100 has received a lot of attention and love. The Engine is a 302, but added to it are Flowtech headers that exit as side exhausts. Getting air into the engine is an open element filter on an Edelbrock 600 carb. That feeds an Offenhauser intake. Upgraded roller rocker heads have also been fitted from an Explorer.
Power transfer to the rear axles has seen a big change with a Tremec 5-speed taking the place of a three speed. Also from an Explorer is a 3.73 locker 8.8 rear end. The truck has been lowered as well, with cut coils up front and a “flipped” axle out back. All in, it makes for easy smokey burnouts.
Inside, things have been changed as well with the bench seat being chucked in favor of individual buckets. A custom AutoMeter gauge cluster and new steering wheel greet the driver, along with a slick American flag headliner. Thankfully, the outside has retained its glorious rusty patina.
LoPresti also enjoys driving his truck, and takes it to truck and car shows when ever he can. In the video at the beginning of this post, he takes his truck to Irwindale Speedway. The show includes judging, drifting, and the ability to drive the truck on the track itself. Even better is that the event had charitable donations in support to cancer survivors. LoPresti was able to take a cancer survivor along as he drove on track. Is there really a better use for an F-100?
