Monterey Car Week: Hennessey VelociRaptor Hiding at The Quail

Velociraptor hiding at the Quail

Among the fancy vehicles parked at The Quail, the Hennessey VelociRaptor 6×6 stands out among the rest at Monterey Car Week.

Ford Truck Enthusiasts is working hard to bring you the sights of Monterey Car Week, especially when it comes to Ford trucks. We know that most of the Ford trucks we’ll likely see are hauling all sorts of fancy rides, like Ford GT40s, Shelby 427 Cobras, and Mercury Cougar Eliminators. But we also know that the right options can place an F-150 among the well-dressed connissoeurs at Pebble Beach and The Quail.

Speaking of The Quail, a golf club whose grounds host a more exclusive showing than Pebble Beach during Monterey Car Week, we happened upon a truck that would be more at home in Baja or on the drag strip than on the back nine. Say hello to the Hennessey VelociRaptor 6×6.

The latest madness to come out of Texas, the Hennessey VelociRaptor 6×6 starts with a 2017-19 Ford Raptor crew cab, and stretches the backside to accommodate a second rear axle, transforming the 4×4 into a 6×6 terror. But that’s only the beginning.

Aside from the 20-inch wheels wrapped in thick off-road tires, LED light bars, and off-road armoring, the VelociRaptor 6×6 derives its power from a highly tuned, twin-turbo 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, putting out 602 horses and 622 lb-ft of torque to all six wheels. That’s enough power under the big hood to send this monster to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds.

The beast is a rare sight on The Quail, and will likely remain so: only 50 are planned to be built by Hennessey, either through direct order or select Hennessey/Ford dealerships. The price for a VelociRaptor 6×6 is pretty rarefied, too, coming in at $349,000 on top of the chosen Raptor’s $50,675 base price.

Aggression never looked this good. Definitely better than some other fancy 6×6 trucks we know of.
