I Once Caught a Ford Truck Thiiiiiiis Big!
Here’s a fish tale we’ve never heard before.
A fisherman in Kentucky recently had a whale of a time on a recent trip. He definitely landed the catch of the day: his Ford F-150.
John Smith went out to cast a rod at Elkhorn Creek in the Georgetown area. He pulled his Ford F-150 up to the ramp to lower his boat in the water. Suddenly, Smith realized he had a big problem on his hands. The truck was rolling backwards off the ramp. Before he could process what as going on, it had rolled into the water and was going under fast.
Witnesses told the local newspaper News Graphic that Smith thankfully was able to get out of the truck before it went for a dip. He quickly sprung into action. He jumped in the boat to cut the rope connecting it to the truck. Smith, safe in his boat, was soon surrounded by the contents of his truck, papers, personal items, and even spare tires bobbing around him in the water.
The F-150 was pulled out of the creek by a tow truck. The tow truck driver even had had to swim out to the sunken rig and and hook it up to the tow while underwater. Although, based on the pictures, it looks pretty good. But, as we know, looks can be deceiving. It is unlikely the truck can survive long-term after that degree of water damage. Some water damage repairs can be done, but in this case…probably going to end up scrap.
Crazy as it may seem, we have seen this sort of thing happen before. A few times. And a few different ways.
We certainly hope that Smith has good insurance, and can find himself behind the wheel of a Ford truck once again. Also, seriously, be careful and vigilant when it comes to safety around the boat launch.
