Gorgeous ’79 Ford F-150 Ranger Is One Heck of a Find
FTE member stumbles across his dream F-150 almost by chance but had to wait a while before bringing it home.
Most of us scour the web on a regular basis, looking at awesome old trucks that we’d love to have. But few of us actually get to pull the trigger and bring them home. One such lucky soul is Ford Truck Enthusiasts member jthamilton1, who recently scored this amazing 1979 Ford F-150 Ranger at auction. But instead of just posting up pics of his new ride, the OP was kind enough to share the story behind its purchase in this thread. And, well, the whole thing happened almost by accident.
“I believe in October the wife and I traveled to Las Vegas to watch her Dad spend some money. Bad idea on my part, because I came across my dream truck. As an Oklahoma State Cowboy (wife and I), the orange (coral) caught my eye immediately. When I had reached my max bid, the fella bidding against me stopped and I got the truck I’ve always wanted. As a previous Land Cruiser junkie, i had gotten tired of them for many reasons I won’t go into here. I kept it in Oklahoma in the father in law’s shop all winter since we live outside Steamboat Springs, CO where it snows a bunch. All I could do was look at pics and dream a little all winter. I went back to Tulsa a few times and would start her up, but never got to drive her anywhere.”
We can’t imagine what the OP was going through after finally buying his dream F-150 and not being able to even admire it in his own garage. But soon, as it always does, winter took a break and he was finally able to bring it home.
“Last weekend, with the kids out of school and a far less snowy forecast, the wife and I pulled the trailer down to Oklahoma and got to spend our first romantic (tongue in cheek) trip to town in the new truck. A wonderful warm evening and 30-mile road trip with the windows down, something we haven’t done in long time. I splurged at Sonic with the wife as I have bragged about us doing since we purchased the truck. Weather turned south the next day, so I loaded it up and we headed back to Colorado.”
Since getting his dream F-150 home, the OP has been driving it every day. And it’s running perfectly. He even took it to a mechanic, who was unable to find anything major wrong with it. Even the OP’s daughter, who just received her driver’s permit, has already taken it for a spin. It’s a cool story indeed, and one you should definitely check out in its entirety by heading over here!
