Is Ford Planning an Expedition Tremor? (Bye, Timberline?)
An Expedition Tremor may be replacing the Timberline as Ford’s best full-sized SUV for off-roading! Would you buy one?
Spy shots are circulating today showing a heavily camouflaged Ford Expedition that has auto industry insiders wondering, is the Ford Motor Company planning an Expedition Tremor? Unfortunately, for copyright reasons, we can’t show you the spied images. But we can describe them. In short, imagine a Ford Expedition with a polka dot wrap covering everything but the front bash plate, running boards, and wheels/tires. (Oh, and the windshield… #safety)
Much remains a mystery, including what could indicate revised lightning and front and rear fascias. Although it’s the wheels and tires that are causing a stir and ye olde rumor mill.
But first, let’s back up just a touch. At present, the top dog of Ford’s full-sized SUV off-roaders is the Expedition Timberline, which we reviewed HERE. Powered by a high-output 3.5L EcoBoost making 430 horsepower and 510 lb.-ft. of torque, the Timberline is quick and comfortable and luxurious. It also features bash plates, recovery hooks, a slight lift, retuned shocks, and 265/70R18 All-Terrain Tires. It is quite literally one of the coolest full-sized SUVs ever made by the Blue Oval.
Tremor Wheels & Tires
However, what makes today’s siting so interesting is the fact that this camouflaged Expedition is sporting more aggressive 33-inch General Grabber tires. We last saw these tires (and exact wheels) when we reviewed the F-150 Tremor. A trim level includes a unique suspension and themed interior that make it an excellent off-roader.
The question then is, will Ford offer both an Expedition Tremor and a Timberline? Or is the Timberline being replaced outright? We’ll have to wait and see. But it is worth noting that the camouflaged prototype spied today features a single exhaust tip on the muffler, whereas the Timberline sports dual tips. Does this mean the Expedition Timberline might have the standard output 3.5L EcoBoost motor (like the F-150 Tremor) rather than the H.O.?
Again, we can only speculate at this time. But hopefully, Ford will be ready to share its latest special edition Expedition.
Would you buy an Expedition Tremor if this becomes real?
